The small box is purely for a guide of where to take goal kicks from,  I believe.

Put a good word in for Scotty Parker will ya Alan?

Why, so he can go off on England duty like Taylor & Owen and miss 6 months too?

Thats a good point that.

Would love it,  personally.

Also,  this really tickled me;

Eriksson last night stressed his own commitment to the current England captain, David Beckham, but added that he would drop Beckham if he deemed it tactically pertinent. "I am not married to David Beckham, even if you think I am," said Eriksson. "I'm not even engaged to him."

7  NUFC Discussion / NUFC Forum / Re: Milner to stay!!!! on: June 22, 2006, 11:41:49 AM
For people who cant click -

JAMES Milner will be back on Tyneside next week for pre-season training ready to stake his claim for a place in Glenn Roeder's team.

Milner, who signed for the Magpies in the summer of 2004, spent the bulk of last season on loan at Aston Villa after moving to the Midlands on transfer deadline day.

Villa boss David O'Leary has been keen to make the move permanent, with some reports suggesting signing Milner on a permanent deal was the Irishman's main priority this summer.

But the former Leeds starlet has been in contact with Roeder, and the manager told him he would be happy to have him fighting for a place at St. James' Park next season.

And with Michael Owen out injured, Alan Shearer having retired and Michael Chopra now with Cardiff City, Milner's ability to operate as a striker will give Roeder a boost.

Roeder said: "I have already met James, and I have told him I am very happy for him to stay here.

"He told me that he knows nobody can be guaranteed first team football, but all he wanted was a fair opportunity and he is happy at what I told him.

"He has been away at Aston Villa for a year, and let's hope that even though he is still only 20 he comes back better for the experience and a lot more mature and assertive."

Delighted.  Roeder wants him,  and he seems keen to stay.  With striking options minimal,  its definately good news.

As much as I'd like it to happen, he hasn't got a leg to stand on.

Who?  Owen?

I was asking for that, I guess.  Still, shame on you.  bluewink.gif

If I dont laugh about it,  i'll only end up crying.

I'm sure even Freddie can spell league,  though Wink

Most papers said he could face a year out - some say his career is over.  If thats the case,  then we should go for as much as we can.

Amazing.  Can't believe Norwich let him go.
13  NUFC Discussion / NUFC Forum / Re: Freddy taken out extra insurance against Owen? on: June 21, 2006, 07:03:03 PM
Only makes sense when you spend 16million(not that i do very often) you want something of that value insured as well as possible, Id imagine some like Faye is only covered for fire and theft :)

Here's hoping someone steals him soon then.  I obviously dont want him set on fire....I think.

Not entirely sure how the policy would work, but I'd be surprised if it covers wages during the close season as at that time you're not actually suffering for the loss of the player.  Or am I talking shit?

If thats the case,  lucky we start early with the Intertoto  Laughing

And they will have the same arrangement and policies for Kieron Dyer so all the people on here who regularly give it " the club are paying this to keep him on his arse" can be rest assured, insurance will be covering it!!

This goes against the FA's insurers though,  and not Newcastles.  Dyer will be costing us a hell of a lot more.

FA facing huge bill over Owen injury

The Football Association's insurers could face a bill for millions of pounds as they pick up the tab for Michael Owen's knee injury.

FA spokesman Adrian Bevington has confirmed the insurance policy in place for all England players will compensate the Magpies for the loss of their £103,000-a-week striker while he recovers from the ruptured anterior cruciate ligament which ended his World Cup.

However, it is understood Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd, who will discover later this week just how long Owen will be out of action, took out additional coverage against a serious injury to his £17million signing.

Bevington said: "We have an insurance policy in place for all players that covers their salaries while they are injured."

Recent reports have suggested that Manchester United were unhappy with the cover as Wayne Rooney was passed fit following his fractured metatarsal.

But Shepherd, who saw Owen sidelined for the final five months of last season by a similar problem, is understood to have ensured there was no margin for error by opting for his own safety net, although it is the FA's arrangement which will bear the brunt of the cost.

Shepherd said: "It's well known that the FA insure England players when they are away on international duty should issues such as compensation arise, and that applies in Michael's case."

Deserves some credit if thats true.

18  NUFC Discussion / NUFC Forum / Re: Owen out for 5 months!! on: June 21, 2006, 01:33:35 PM
NEWCASTLE United chairman Freddy Shepherd says the club will give its full support to Michael Owen after his injury heartache at the World Cup.

The Magpies' record signing had to leave the field after only a minute of England's 2-2 draw with Sweden in Cologne on Tuesday night, and Mr Shepherd said he had been informed by the Football Association that the 26-year-old had suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Owen will return back from Germany today and meet up with the Magpies' medical staff later this week and Mr Shepherd says everyone at United will rally round the record signing.

The chairman told nufc.co.uk: "Michael is flying back from Germany today and sadly his World Cup is over.

"We've been informed by the FA that Michael has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, but at this stage it's too early to say how long he will be out for, although it is a serious injury.

"He'll come home and back into our care and will be assessed by our club medical staff at some point in the next couple of days following his return.

"Everyone at the club will give Michael their full support and our concern now is to provide the best possible care for Michael and get him on the mend as quickly as possible so we can all look forward to the day he's back playing and scoring goals in a black and white shirt for Newcastle United."

Owen's injury is a blow to the whole of England as they back the Three Lions' bid to lift the World Cup in Germany, but particularly to Newcastle fans who have seen the striker make just ten starts and one substitute appearance since his move to St. James' Park from Gallowgate last August after an injury-hit maiden term on Tyneside that saw him miss games in the autumn with a hamstring complaint before he fractured a metatarsal in his right foot at Spurs on New Year's Eve that restricted his club action for the rest of the 2005/06 campaign to just a half-hour run-out at Birmingham City in May.

Mr Shepherd added: "It's well known that the FA insure England players when they are away on international duty should issues such as compensation arise, and that applies in Michael's case."

After Alan Shearer's retirement at the end of last season, Owen had said he was looking to take on the responsibility for goals at Gallowgate, and this injury is a cruel blow to him and the club.

Manager Glenn Roeder is currently away studying as part of his Pro Licence qualification, but he has remained in constant touch with Mr Shepherd throughout the summer about possible new signings.

The chairman added: "Although Glenn is away working on getting his Pro Licence this week, we keep in regular touch and we'll be having regular discussions going forward about how we make sure we are in the strongest possible position at the start of the new season.

"It's a blow for Michael and the club, but you have to deal with injuries when they happen. Last season, you had to give great credit to the rest of the squad for the way they managed to climb the table up to seventh and give us a chance of Europe while Michael was missing with his foot injury.

"And whoever starts the season on the pitch for us they have to meet the challenges ahead."

Warnock denies that they are going near Nicky Butt.  wullie

"Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock has rejected claims he is hoping to bring Newcastle's Nicky Butt to the club.

The midfielder, 30, spent last season on loan to Birmingham after failing to establish himself at St James' Park.

"I've not spoken to Nicky Butt and I've not thought about him," Warnock told the Blades' official website.

"With the wages I've seen mentioned I'd want three players in. People can turn up at the ground and meet him if they like but there won't be anybody there.""

For gods sake.  Someone shoot me.
20  NUFC Discussion / NUFC Forum / Butt to join Sheffield Utd...? on: June 20, 2006, 12:18:44 AM
NICKY BUTT is set end his unhappy stay at Newcastle by joining Premiership new boys Sheffield United in a £500,000 deal.

The former Manchester United and England midfielder, 31, was on loan at relegated Birmingham last season.

He is in the last year of his contract with the Toon — where he made just 25 first-team starts following a £2.5m move in July 2004.

Butt will now pick up a £20,000-a-week deal with the Blades.
