just saw a report that distin has rejected any further contract talks with manchester city because that won't meet his 50K a week wage demand....

want to see us sure up at least 1 outside back, but distin wouldn't be a bad addition.  i think taylor and distin could form a solid partnership in the heart of defense with gareth bale out left? and nobby on the right

Does Distin think some fool out there will offer him £50kpw?

Upson is a quality player stuck at a shit club. And I find it very hard to praise anyone who plays there.

Someone on one of our boards was sat behind MON at St Andrews a few weeks ago and apparently he was scrawling notes on Upson (yes, probably bullshit, but is entirely feasible).

There's no way they'd sell him to us, though.

On the whole January transfer window thing, I think there are going to be an awful lot of disappointed clubs / fans - don't expect many big deals to be done.

What kind of money do you think Villa will spend?

It its less than £10m will you be unhappy?
4  Football / NUFC / Re: ***January Transfer Window Thread*** on: Yesterday at 11:13:15 PM
Upson is crap and a bottom 6 Prem team is his level. Seems a bit injury prone too.

When has Wenger ever let a young player go and they've proven to be class? Never.

It looked at one stage that it would bite him in the arse, but the Upson hype finally died down.

Cant actually believe its back tbh. His last game for England was a disgrace, his last season in the EPL woeful, and now in the Championship, 18months on his contract, 7 month injury, and people want to buy him, for actual money, not haribo sweets or argos vouchers, proper cash!

Kovac for free i would take, maybe.

But you've got to consider Boumsong is keeping him out of the team if he isn't playing, is that someone we want?

Besides am sure Boom will tell every Juve player never to join Newcastle, ever.

Grygera fee needs to be minimal, is he a CB or RB? or both?

Well it wasn't that long ago since i saw Kovac play. An he was 10 times the player compared to Boumsong, and im not sure that Boumsong has played that much either has he?

The last time i saw Kovac play was against England in Croatia.

Grygera can play both as RB and CB. But i have only seen him play RB. And i think he's quality..

Boom has played almost every game iirc, and doing well.

7m would get you Grygera, Jankulovski and Kovac?

WTF?  In Football Manager world maybes....

I DONT PLAY FM!

Grygeras contract ends in the summer and he's already stated that he wont extend that and he will leave in januari or in the summer at the latest and ajax has accepted his decision about his future.

Robert Kovac is born 74 and isn't a regular starter for Juventus. I bet he would cost £100m

Jankulovski could be available for around £3-4m i believe (ih he hasn't played that much this season?)

And i wrote "For that sum you could get allt those three players i believe..almost anyway.."

Ouch!

Fuck me.  Lots of people get to see Scottish football these days going by the various quotes.  And also, no way should you rate a player by what he did 8 years ago LOL.  Get a grip.  We aren't getting him anyways.  Get Get Get Get over it, Get over it oohhhhhhhh.

Aye, i bet half the posters in this thread pissed the bed regularly 8 years ago.

The other half still continue to do so by the sound of things.

Which half are you?

Still pissing mate, still pissing  :(
12  Football / NUFC / Re: ***January Transfer Window Thread*** on: Yesterday at 10:54:46 PM
SSN's reported in transfer talk Chelsea were looking at him for £8m

Laughing

He's not even worth 25% of that.

Hope we stay clear, he's a fuking liability and has probably lost his one asset he had, pace.
13  Football / NUFC / Re: Another question for those who properly remember the Keegan days on: Yesterday at 10:53:03 PM
Given is a better keeper than Pav was but that in no way means Pav is the reason we won nothing, inability to kill a game off is what cost us in the end.

Too many injuries, shite players punching above their weight and too much pressure cost us the league.

If they sold Richards for £18m, I'm sure Man City would sooner just hold onto Distin. What a deal for City though. £18m for Richards when they already have Trabelsi. Potentially a very good player for sure, but I reckon the £18m to strengthen elsewhere (even buy a Distin replacement) would soften the blow.

Kind of takes the romance out of it all if all we've become is a pooving ground for Chelsea. I don't believe Richards is keen on going anytime soon - It would be nice to see all our kids in the first team together for a spell before the inevatble breakup.  :(

PS: I'd want SWP back (They can carry on paying some of his wages) if they do make money talk. We are desperate for a bit of the ol X-Factor in the side again...we're pretty flat at the moment. Our problems are at the other end of the pitch so I'm not too fussed about a Distin replacement.

PPS: Distin is not leaving in January. There's a lot of talk that Distin will sign a new deal, but I can't see it and think he's a Bosman waiting to happen. He's probably seeing what offers he gets when he is allowed to negotiate with other teams before deciding whether to sign what we've offered and I can't see us being able to compete financially with who will be interested (i.e. yous)

Your giving Distin £40kpw, i doubt anyone would match that tbh, probably why he wont sign a new deal, he thinks he deserves more and man city were mugs in the 1st place giving him that kind of coin.

SWP + £12m for Richards is what you should be aiming for. Chelsea need Richards a hell of a lot more than any winger.

Carew loan till end of season

Luque swap with Cassano maybe loan or full deal.

Two moves that would suit all parties and would cost nothing.

I'd be delighted if we did this for our forward strengthening and spent the rest on defenders.

You are genius Laughing
Do you think these kind of thoughts cross Roeder mind?
I hope so...although Casano is very conflict person, alot like Bowyer :thdn:
But he has great talent

Probably not. But then apparently Madrid are touting Cassano around England and with our clubs strong links with Madrid i'm sure we'd be asked first, or somewhere near first.

With us touting Luque around Spain, its only a matter of time before the penny drops in someones head.

Maybe Cassano doesn't find a move to us appealing? I wouldn't if i wasn't a fan, and he is ambitious and temperamental

To say Cassano is tempremental is a massive understatement

True.

Cassano is a women trapped in a footballers body.

Does that do it?

No thats taking it a little too far now.

Lets say footballs answer to Elton John? :D

more like the footballing version of

Can you imaging him here in this climate?

'Am so coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooold'

17  Football / NUFC / Re: Peter Damage on: Yesterday at 12:27:32 PM
I won't call Martins shit if he hits bad form because he clearly isn't; he can control a football, something that Ramage, despeite being paid around 56k a week can't do, and the funny thing is Ramage is actually older than Martins. How he is playing for us at this level is baffling. Just because he's a faux-Geordie imo

i really doubt ramage is on 56k a week. nearer 6k.

Probably meant 5-6k a week, but comparing a CB's control compared to a flairful attacking striker is fuking idiotic tbh.

Lets compare a London bus to a Ferrari Enzo.

Well they've both got wheels so why cant the London bus so 0-60 in under 4 seconds?

Must be shit.

Did he get that much stick when he first came? I know a few were not to impressed by him, but I did not think it was so wide spread.

Just watch me go now, says Oba
Dec 28 2006
By Lee Ryder, The Evening Chronicle

Oba Martins today said he agrees with the people who criticised him when he first arrived at Newcastle.

The Toon No 9 has chalked up nine goals since arriving from Inter Milan for £10m, after enduring a sluggish start to his career on Tyneside.

However, Martins revealed he is loving life at Newcastle and has predicted a bright 2007 for himself and team-mates.

He said in an interview with allafrica.com: "I begrudge no one for the many things said about me in previous months.

"But people should understand that any player coming to a new territory will need some time to settle down.

"It is a whole new environment, new style, new culture and new orientation.

"I thank God that I am doing better than when I just arrived. It means that the coming year will be good.

"Newcastle is a club with ambition and we have every reason to do well next year.

"We lost out of the Carling Cup in the quarter-finals, but we are gradually inching up the table in the Premiership and will continue to move up. The next few matches will be the key.

"We are also in the round of 32 in the UEFA Cup and there's still the FA Cup."

Nigerian international Martins also had high praise for boss Glenn Roeder.

He added: "I commend the coach. He is a good leader and he gives us confidence.

"For him, I will always go out there and do my best."

It was more the media jumping on him than the fans tbh.

Of course there were sceptical fans out there, but most of that stayed on the internet, out of the stands certainly, and very rarely in the papers.

It was the media ready to pounce and ruin a players career as he dared join NUFC for big money, this time the young lad was too strong for the vultures, and now they have to write nice things, gutted for them tbh.

It's Moore bad news for Glenn on injury front
Dec 28 2006
By Alan Oliver, The Evening Chronicle

Newcastle United defender Craig Moore has suffered a setback with his hamstring injury.

And that leaves Glenn Roeder wondering when he is ever going to be able to field a recognisable back four again.

Roeder heads back to the North West for Saturday's game with Everton without FIVE of his defenders - Moore, Titus Bramble, Olivier Bernard, Stephen Carr and Celestine Babayaro.

And that could well be considered as six, as Nobby Solano, who has had to be used at right- back by Roeder, only has a 50-50 chance of returning as he recovers from a groin injury.

The United boss admitted today: "To be perfectly honest I cannot put a comeback date on Moore, Bramble, Bernard or Carr.

"Babayaro has had a scan on his hamstring injury and it revealed that there is a grade one tear which will keep him out for two or three weeks.

"Moore has broken down and this is probably due to all the previous hamstring injuries he has suffered in his career.

"Bramble is only back in very light training - and I mean very light - and we don't really know when he will be back. The same applies to Bernard, who is having an operation on his hip.

"And as far as Carr is

concerned, he is fat c***, but there is still bruising on his brain and he cannot strike a ball with his melon head. His return is open-ended - it could be tomorrow or years.

"Solano has a chance for Saturday, but if not he should make Manchester United on Monday."

United's defensive injuries mean that Roeder has been forced to use no fewer than SEVEN of his men at right-back this season - Carr, Solano, Steven Taylor, Peter Ramage, Paul Huntington, David Edgar and James Milner, the latter for a spell in the win at Blackburn Rovers earlier this month.

Roeder, of course, also has strikers Michael Owen and Shola Ameobi as long-term injury victims, while the United boss is not expecting Charles N'Zogbia back until "some time in February".

And plans to have Damien Duff back on the bench at the Reebok Stadium on Boxing Day had to be abandoned after the £5m signing suffered some reaction in training.

Roeder added: "Duff has done some extra work over Christmas after his knee operation and as a result his calf tightened up, and it seems that no matter what we do we cannot win.

"But the only consolation is that, apart from Kieron Dyer's freak eye injury, every injury we have had actually occurred during matches, until Babayaro was hurt in training last Thursday."
