Anyone here seen this film (about 2 Geordies and their struggle to get Newcastle season tickets)? What do Geordies here think of it?
It was on RTÉ tonight (Ireland's public broadcaster) and I thought it was quite funny, especially the bit when the two lads entered into enemy territory.
Also, Alan Shearer's music collection consisting of Des Ree, Natalie Imbruglia and Celine Dion...
Very enjoyable film tbh. |

On the bright side, a shite performance could not have come at a more opportune time in terms of reminding Roeder & Shepherd that some replacements are needed. If losing badly convinces Roeder that we need some Premiership quality defenders, then good will come from this.
You would think so. But anybody stupid enough to sell Woodgate and not replace him, then sell Boumsong and not replace him, is capable of anything. We began the season with 6 defenders for christ sake. Also when you look at our full backs since Shepherd took over, he has always spent pennies on the full back positions and always will IMO. yep, long gone are the days when we forked out £4m for the likes of Warren Barton. |

In 01/02 we won 3-1 at Goodison, 4-0 at the Reebok, 3-1 at Highbury, 4-3 at Elland Road, 4-1 at the Riverside, and 3-1 at White Hart Lane.
With Bellamy, Robert, and Dyer our pace on the counter was near unstoppable, and add Given, Speed and a red hot Shearer into the mix... good times.
Bring back Sir Bobby! |

He's still the most over rated player at NUFC - FACT.
Yep. More league goals than the rest of the midfield put together............not bad for someone so hopeless? Dyer 2 + Duff 1 + Emre 1 = 4 Parker 3 = 3 whatever, Parker still has 4 goals.
swap Duff for N'Zogbia in the league and it's even steven. |

I'd like to see some stats to back that so called fact up, as merely saying fact does not make it so. |

What does it say? I'm banned from GG-chat for winding them up in the match thread. thfcsteff
Nice work by the dirty littole T***, always dramatising, always feigning over-contact, lucky not to see red for directly placing his head in Chimbonda's face and waving a card the second he got caught by The Hudd. I spent the rest of the game hoping (among other things) that Chims would take the little bastard out.
While I'm here, all three goals were terrible defensively, especially the first two (one was down to Daws and Ledders both making major errors, two was offside for sure BUT Chims stopped playing for a moment when he saw Daws hand go up, had he continued playing Martins wouldn't have got to it)...the third? Put it this way, yes Robbo spilt it, but Ghaly was watching everything when he had time to get back to the one, turn and face whatever shot came in!!!
I personally am more than prepared to give Daws, Ledders and Robbo a free pass for today, rarely do these important players make errors for us (especially in the same match) and I'll back them not to do it again.
Was pleased we didn't drop our heads at 3-1, we kept going, kept fighting...but againh, back to Emre. I'd suggest that cheating little T*** take a look at Nicky Butt, a proper f**king hardman who keeps his mouth shut and gets on with the game.
Finally, must add that I thought Scott Parker played really really well, plenty of hunger and desire...would've been a great player for us alongside The Hudd...and Milner did a good job too, always rated him... |

| I bet we sell him then don't sign any defenders, like we did with Boumsong. Then when everyone gets injured (which they no doubt will) our back four will consist of Solano, Ramage, Butt and Huntington - and that's being optimistic! |

sky will not let it be played tonight as they have bought the rights to the match, and have yours already for tomorrow. Got to much power within the game sky. Thank god it wasnt an away.
The game can't be rescheduled quickly for policing/traffic managment etc reasons, Liverpool City by laws require 10 days notice for a match |

AGM - nowt of note
As expected, a 35 minute AGM on Tuesday brought no major public revelations regarding the future of the club, with confirmation only that Belgravia talks were ongoing and that Polygon had informally looked at the books.
Freddy Shepherd and Douglas Hall (in a non -speaking part) were both present, along with around 60 shareholders and their proxies.
From The Guardian, Tuesday:
Newcastle United hold their annual general meeting in the City of London this morning with the topic of a purported takeover topping the agenda. The club issued a statement on Friday denying an imminent purchase of the St James' Park club by the Polygon investment firm and said there was currently no process of due diligence under way.
The due diligence reference had some relevance as a potential rival to Polygon, the Belgravia Group, which Newcastle confirmed was in talks about a possible takeover as far back as August 21, had been said to have started due diligence soon after the initial August announcement was made. Belgravia has had its credibility questioned on Tyneside and has reacted to Newcastle's "carefully worded" statement by saying that it was not engaged in due diligence because its due diligence was complete. The company is satisfied with its audit and is now assessing if and when to bid for the club.
Should Belgravia walk away and no other purchaser step forward, Newcastle's chairman Freddy Shepherd will feel vindicated in his dismissive attitude towards a possible takeover, but Shepherd is still likely to have questions to answer this morning from shareholders concerning last year's £12m loss. |

Football / NUFC / Re: Ruud Gullit Interview earlier this evening
|
on: December 14, 2006, 09:22:23 AM

it's a fairly long interview but I'll try...
first he talks about AC Milan and Holland, then about the impact of foreigners in the Premiership, some stuff about how Cantona paved the way for him but how he felt the Premiership was so much easier and he felt he could play well every single week etc etc.
Newcastle bit sounds a bit silly in print, such is the nature of the interview
RG: it's very difficult to attract good players there because not many players want to go up to the north, they go to London and big cities, so it's very difficult to make that happen... it's a sleeping giant, it's there , and there's very nice people up there, so therefore I dunno when it's gonna happen - it's going to be always difficult for them but I hope they do NT: You were criticised for not living there at the time, I mean you say it's difficult to attract players and you as manager... RG: ah you know I lived there... NT: You did? RG: Yeah I lived there! NT: We thought you lived in Amsterdam... RG: No I didn't How can you do that? It's not possible. I lived there. NT: You dropped Alan Shearer for one match... RG: Yes NT: You're not allowed to do that up there, obviously nobody told you... RG: I know I know but it was the best thing to do at the moment, and eh, I didn't regret it I was only unlucky we lost the second half when lost the game 2-1 we were one nil up and doing well, and eh my point is if u wanna do this there's some barriers u have to break, and if u don't do that, after that, you'll remain in the same state as where u are now... and it's gonna be difficult again, like I said to to attract good players to that area NT: what was Shearer like - we hear that he was a bit overbearing, a little bit dominant maybe... RG: I think that Shearer was a good... great player, goalscorer, and of course I wanted different things from him but because I think he can't do it I can't ask you to do things that u can't, and eh therefore, there was differences in opinion - I played in Europe at the highest level so I knew what I needed to become better than we were, but u need everybody's help... NT: U don't think that was forthcoming at the time? RG: No, it was difficult for him NT: Do u think he'll make much of a manager when he eventually stops speaking on the television? RG: I dunno (pause) I dunno (again pause) I dunno NT: what do u think u need to be a good coach? RG: you need luck, u need to mingle very well with players. You're a psychologist more than a coach. You can invent all kinds of exercises whatever you like but it's all about the players, babysitting everyday...
then he goes on to talk about Rijkaard and Mourinho and also laughs off comparisons between his situation with Shearer and Van Basten's with Van Nistelrooy. |

Well nothing to revealing there!, at least nothing I think everybody didn't know already.
well he did deny the stories that he didn't live in Newcastle himself after moaning about not being able to attract players to the North East |
