How many tickets are we getting? Is it 900?

I fear that we will hardly get more than 900. Demand seems to be reasonably high from the home fans too so they'll probably get a sell out anyway.
2  Football / Ticket News and Travel / Re: Zulte Waregem (A) 15/02/07 KO 8:45pm - AWAITING TICKET DETAILS on: January 05, 2007, 10:28:45 AM
Ticket prices will be 30, 40 and 50 euros. I don't know how much it will be for the visitors but I reckon about 40 euros.

There is from Brussels a really good train connection to Gent, so I would advice going to Gent by train. For those who will be spending a few days over there I can say that it's really great that the game will be in Gent. It's a beautiful city with a lot of great restaurants and besides that with a pretty lively nightlife. For nightlife Gent is a lot better than Bruges. Gent is also, and maybe some will not really like that, a real student's city. It has quite some universities and is the second biggest student's city in Flanders. This does mean though that prices for beer are quite okay.

The stadium of Gent is not really in the city center, you will probably need public transport to get there. It's quite close to the highway. There are also quite a few bars by the stadium by the way. For me this is ideal by the way, it's about a 30 minutes drive from where I live to the stadium.

I hope that security will not be too propostrous. When Ajax played against Zulte Waregem it was really crazy, Ajax fans were not even allowed in the city center and were obliged to come by coach. I hope that they are informed that Newcastle fans are okay, cause a lot of people here think straightaway about riots when talking about English football.

Getting tickets might be a big problem here. The away allocation will be without a doubt too small. It's quite certain to be a sell out. Zulte Waregem is not a widely followed club but Newcastle still is quite a big name here and a lot of neutral fans will want to see this game. I've had a lot of mates asking me for tickets and most of them or no fans of Newcastle or Zulte Waregem. I'm still hoping of getting tickets for the away stand through a guy who knows a guy who works at Zulte Waregem. He got a few tickets for the away stand when Ajax played here, so let's hope this works again.

The ticket prices for the game in Gent has been announced. The tickets cost 30, 40 and 50 euros but I don't really know how much the tickets for the visitors will be but I think they'll be 40 euros. Quite expensive according to me.

As I said earlier in the UEFA Cup topic this is really bad for the away allocation. This will make a big difference.

It has been confirmed that the game against Zulte Waregem will take place in Gent on Thursday February 15th. The stadium of Gent can only host 12500 people in European games, so I fear a rather small away allocation. At this moment the kick off time has been announced 18.45 local time but I've heard that it will be 20.45 after all.

From .com

Our man in Flanders brings news that upcoming UEFA Cup opponents SV Zulte Waregem are currently investigating the possibility of staging the tie in February 2007 in Bruges.

With Waregem's compact Regenboogstadion only holding 8,500 fans and not licenced for European football, the Belgians had used the 12,900 capacity Jules Otten Stadium of Gent for their trio of home UEFA Cup tie to date.

However such is the interest in the game that consideration is being given to switching it to the 29,000 seat Jan Breydel Stadium that is shared by both Club Brugge and Cercle Brugge.

That venue played host to four ties in Euro 2000 and was also used by Club Brugge in their UEFA Cup fixture this season before they were eliminated at the Group Stage.

Gent might be a more interesting city to visit for those coming over but when you look at stadium capacity Bruges would be far more interesting, I think we might get a pretty big away allocation when we play there since Zulte Waregem doesn't have a real lot of fans and they will want to win back as much money as possible from the amount they'll pay to rent another stadium. I'm actually hoping for something like a 5000 away allocation there.

Okay, I just sorted a big problem out. I was supposed to go on ski holiday from February 10th till 17th but with the toon visiting Belgium in that week I just cancelled my holiday  :).
8  Football / NUFC / Re: UEFA Cup Draw Thread on: December 18, 2006, 05:28:19 PM
The big difference was that all the Ajax fans were obliged by law to come by buses, so they could easily be controlled. I suppose that quite a few Geordies will be spending the night in Belgium, so can not be prohibited to enter the town.
Also a lot will depend on where they will play. If they play in Gent (like their previous European games) only 12500 people can get into the stadium, so that will mean a really small away allocation. If they play in Bruges 30000 people can get into the stadium and the away allocation will be a lot bigger.
Currently the Zulte Waregem ticketing service is on holiday until January 4th, so I suppose no news on the tickets will appear before that date.

Would anyone miss Belgium, surely one of the most unspectacular countries in the world.

Well, I think quite some Flemish people would prefer us to be independant. We don't really get along with people from Wallonie and the money Flanders makes is used to clear the debts Wallonie has made. They need us more than the other way around, that's also why to were absolute in shock after the false show on their television. Whilst in Flanders there wasn't that big fuss about it. It's a difficult discussion of course, people have different opinions about it, this difference in culture, mentality and especially language causes a lot of problems in my country.
10  Football / NUFC / Re: Uefa Cup Draw on: December 16, 2006, 05:48:24 PM
this is the best draw ever!  as a belgian and studying in Gent it's awesome to be able to see my beloved toon again! does anyone know if it's possible to sit with the newcastle fans as a belgian? i suppose you have to buy tickets from the newcastle box office then?

I've tried very hard on getting tickets in the away stand in Frankfurt and didn't succeed (despite friends in Newcastle trying to get tickets for me). It was only after Newcastle sent back a few thousand tickets that I was able to get some on the Frankfurt website. If they play in Gent I wouldn't count on Newcastle sending back tickets (there'll probably be about a 2000 away allocation) and it will be very hard to get tickets.
I'll probably be on ski holiday but I'm gonna do my best to move my holiday. Even without tickets I want to go to Gent (if they won' be playing in Bruges of course) and have a party with the other Geordies, like we did in Frankfurt.
11  Football / NUFC / Re: Uefa Cup Draw on: December 15, 2006, 12:46:01 PM
By the way, Zulte Waregem are having quite a row on their team colours. A few years back two teams, Zulte and Waregem, went together to become Zulte Waregem. Zulte was green and yellow, Waregem was red and white, their new and current team colours became red and green. But quite a few hardcore Waregem fans (Waregem is by far the one of them with the biggest history) continue to wear red and white, their old colours, when they go to the games. Now for their latest European game against Ajax the team directors and the police decided that any Zulte Waregem fans wearing red and white would straightaway be arrested.

For any info on Zulte Waregem, Belgium in general or especially transport to Belgium people can always pm me.
Bad news for me though. I've been dreaming so long about the toon coming to Belgium and now they are finally coming over it's in the weekend that I'm away on ski holiday.

Also note that they will certainly not be playing in their own stadium. So far this season they've played their European home games in Ghent but they may play this one in Bruges.
14  Football / NUFC / Re: Uefa Cup Draw on: December 15, 2006, 12:14:23 PM
A post I made earlier today on them:

The most famous players at Zulte Waregem are probably Geert De Vlieger (former Man City) and Cedric Roussel (former Coventry and Wolves). Cedric Roussel dreams about a draw against Newcastle and said this about us: "I've played them three times and the atmosphere their fans create is unbelievable. We once played at home with Coventry and beat them 4-0 and they were still dancing. 4000 fans, even though Newcastle is 300 km away! When it comes to atmosphere England is by far the best league in the world. We have very little chance of qualifying for the next round. Then maybe you have your best chance against English teams. Technically and tactically it's not much. Against them the battle is decided physically."

Well, don't count on them making a chance against us. They're playing shit this season and they're only 11th in the Belgian league at this moment. In UEFA Cup they were first very lucky to beat Lokomotiv Moscow and qualify for the group stage. Then they got shock wins against a very poor Austria Wien (battling relegation in Austria) and against Sparta Prague before getting slaughtered by Espanyol and Ajax. What they've already done is by far the biggest achievement of their history, so now they're only hoping for a big team in the next round so they can get a full stadium.
By the way, almost all of their players are amateurs and they just go to work during the day. So they actually have to take time off work to go to their European away games.
15  Football / NUFC / Re: Anthony Vanden Borre on: December 15, 2006, 07:56:02 AM
Do people who want Anthony Vandenborre to come here have ever seen him actually play? The guy is so bad you can hardly believe it. He's even not good enough to play in our Belgian league.

have to remember that people on here base their opinions on playing Championship Manager/FM you know Wink

Thanks for putting the record straight

I think the guy rating the players for FM is one of the rare Anthony Vandenborre fans  bluebiggrin.gif.

A draw against Zulte Waregem would be great. We'd be as good as certain to qualify for the next round and I could go to another European away game. By the way, Zulte Waregem won't be playing in their own stadium cause it's too small. So far they've played all of their European home games this season in Ghent but for the next round they will probably play in the stadium of Club Bruges.

Do people who want Anthony Vandenborre to come here have ever seen him actually play? The guy is so bad you can hardly believe it. He's even not good enough to play in our Belgian league. Yes, he has some talent, but his mentality is absolute shit (he doesn't listen to anyone and just does whatever he feels like) and the guy couldn't care less when on a football pitch, which of course makes him play horrible. He often plays right wing back but his defending is so bad that you can't play him in your defense. So they tried playing him in midfield but he doesn't perform there either. So the result is that he hasn't played one decent game this season and most of the games Anderlecht played he was by far the worst player on the pitch. For some reason both the Anderlecht manager and our national coach keep putting him on the pitch but really no one understands why. And I'm not alone with this opinion, no one in Belgium likes Anthony Vandenborre.

Class, our Copenhagen Mags flag was just next to yours in O'Reillys  bluebiggrin.gif

We were standing not so far from the Copenhagen Mags flag.

Yeah, very multicultural set of fans we seem to have!  Bartos, see you in Frankfurt!

Certainly, I hope to be in Frankfurt by noon tomorrow.

I'll now in about an houre, when I get home from work. It will be a pretty nervous houre  :(.

But if you notice two Belgian lads in O'Reilly's, you just come and say hi to us.  So did I get this right, are you German? Are did I just make a huge mistake assuming this  Laughing?
