George Orwell Was Right: Spy Cameras See Britons' Every Move  (clicky link)

Please note I'm not posting this as a "my country is bettern'n yours" post.  America has a problem with privacy as well, it's just not gone as far.  Helena Kennedy is only half correct in stating we (Americans) wouldn't stand for it.

The blunt and brutal installment of such devices would meet with no end of public outcry, yes, so as ever a plea to emotion is made by those in charge, insidiously protecting the plan, hiding it behind such unassailable claims as "fighting the war on terror" and "protecting children" so that anyone who opposes it is playing the villain. I find myself witness to its ever growing presence here in the States.  Frankly the idea terrifies me.

And since the article was intended for an American audience widely blind to the issues I won't quote the whole thing here as I'm sure it's nothing new to you, but I would like to ask of you:

1) Do you agree or disagree with things like the DNA Database, and speaker-equipped surveillance cameras?
2) How far do you think this will go before anything is done?  Should anything be done?
3) If so what can be done?

Agree with it all. These C***s need to be told and kept an eye on tbh.

Also, not arsed what a septic tank thinks about my country. Put your own house in order before you have the right to judge mine. At least we know we are being watched.

Cheers Wulllie (and lovely to meet you the other day ). She has got loads better after me and my brother have been back in the north east and seen her a lot. Odd stuff.

Anyway, wish all of you the best for the new year. Been an emotional one for me.

Gran on her last legs midds. Its hard seeing her that way and i hope she pulls through but not sure of the life she is going to have afterwards if she does. Canny weird to be pleased to be with someone and be gutted about the state of her health at the same time. Enjoyed my time with her though.

Its been lush and shit all at the same time.

True but i find that places that sell a decent pint are the ones i go back to more. Quite right though, it can be hit and miss.

Tbh if i think my pint is ify i take it back and if not good enough a second time, i switch and if it still mings, i leave.

My solution is to avoid shit bars.

A couple of years ago I went for a drink in a Low Fell bar that shall remain nameless. After having a quick pint (yes, that's one!), I went home and spent the entire night vomiting violently about every 20 minutes. I wasn't on very good form for christmas day that year!

Some dodgy goings on with the drink there  :(
I had a similar exprience in The Archer at Jesmond a few years back. A couple of pints over a game of pool followed by projectile vomitting. Nice.

We missed out on Huth beause we waited too long to attempt to sign him,

Wrong. He didnt want to come here.

I take it none of you lot have ever ventured far down south to a nice place near me called Slough then...

Far too south for me mate. I get panic attacks even thinking that far south.

What happens when you go holiday? Caravaning in whitby?

So the sale of Milner was going to pay for Huth AND Viduka?

no, probably - correctly - Viduka

Ok so we bid for Huth aswell so we obviously had money available, did we not?

Its not like your bank account Jon  Laughing Freddy doesnt have a 'current' account with cash in it that has a transfer fund knocking about in.

If the player wants to sign then the money can be found through shifting items around in the books and using different loans and overdrafts or just assigned to future revenue streams.

The whole point is that if the player wants to come, they will. In this case Huth chose Boro (despite the intervention of our agents trying to scupper it) and Viduka thought f*ck going to that mess of a club, i've been on N-O and the world is about to cave in around them (and who could have blamed him as you would have thought the same having diagnosed our summer as a disaster). If you think that then why do you think Viduka would have wanted to come here?

Have you any understanding at all about the dynamics of a transfer deal? Very rare that a player is sold against his will.

I'm not sure the forum is that bad and am not sure everyone is screaming down the house about the defeat but i agree with your post in general.

One thing that does annoy me is when posters who havent left school talk about management as though they are an expert and criticise the club whatever they do. When they leave school, one or maybe two of them might be in a position where they have to lead a group of 30 or 40 people over a period of one or two years to achieve a difficult objective in a competitive world. They would be far more philosophical about the club's actions and performance if they had just the faintest clue about leading people in any context. Theres a reason why most managers are 40+, you do not have the experience before then to do it properly.

I have to say though Bellers, taking the piss out of fellow posters is fine as long as its done properly  bluebigrazz.gif

I think Roeder is afraid to tell Emre he's shit at set pieces.

His set-piece against us in the San Siro was f***ing quality.

I agree that a striker was a priority. For one thing, you could have a terrific defence and midfield but if you can't score (especially at home) you're looking at the bottom half of the table. Also, you can play square pegs in round holes to extent in certain positions but if you try to do that with your centre-forward you'll struggle. That said, I'd rather we'd got a good centre-half and a left-back than Duff (who I rate btw, or at least did). And I think that many aspects of the transfer window could and should have been handled better, e.g persuing Woodgate after we'd decided Sol Campbell was too injury-prone (I was gutted at the time we never went for him) and chasing Kuyt was a waste of time too and that should have been obvious.

I think Woodgate will come here next season if he proves his fitness with Boro.

Campbell is on record saying that Redknapp is why he went to pompey. It was discussed at the weekend on GSS where they said that he had lost his passion for the game and he needed someone who could re-instill that. He was always going to be Harry's man.

Duff will come good too.
Wasn't he supposed to be interested in coming he before he went to Portsmouth. That could have been paper bollocks but his saying all that about Redknapp could be just saying all the right things (without necessarily meaning them) after the move happened too. Either way, we should have tried to sign him imo. Also, I'm not sure I want Woodgate back here. We need someone more reliable fitness-wise.

Sure he was interested in coming here but the phrase one of the GSS panel used was 'other clubs were in for him but the feeling wasnt right'

Player feeling being another variable that makes 'planning' a bit on the uncertain side.

Oh and he'll be physically sick when he hears about the pms Wink
