Title: Celtic for Shearer's Testimonial?

It seems that this was part of the Bellamy loan deal. At first, I was appalled at the prospect, as Celtic make me sick, but it seems that their fans are equally displeased as they don't view Shearer as "Celtic-friendly". Poor dears. Anyway, if it upsets them, I'm all for it.

Would sooner we had a Newcastle XI against a Shearer XI. Maybe ex-players from his England, Southampton & Blackburn days, against some of his old Newcastle team-mates, where Shearer could maybe play 45 minutes on each side.

And what sort of side do you think they'd bring across just after the season has finished, and a month before nearly their full squad goes off to the World Cup?

Probably a load of bollocks, ON's idea is far better and I'm sure Shearer would have no problem in getting a team full of current and ex-stars to play instead of Celtic's usual money spinning idea of playing a couple of PL clubs in pre-season, though it would be good to see him line up against Lennon again to see if there is still any ill feeling.

would be totally pointless imo. shearer has no ties to celtic.

LENNON, HUTH AND ROY KEANE WOULD BE THE FIRST 3 NAMES ON THE OPPOSITION TEAM LIST FOR ME, ANY OTHERS ?

We could have it post-World Cup?

If not England then why not Rangers remember how many came down for the tournament and we allready have had celtic for Peter Beardsleys testimonial and they had a bad time in the pubs before the game and at the game anyone remember that?

That's a much better idea.

I wouldn't want either the green or blue bigots to be involved in Shearer's testimonial.

I couldn't give a shite if he's "Celtic friendly", whatever that means, but does anyone know why? Is it the Lennon thing?

Eh? Are you saying Shearer doesn't deserve a testimonial?

I'm saying I wouldn't put a penny more into his retirement fund.

We should have a fund raising game to pay Roberts club fines.

Honestly, I don't think the £3.50 you'd get from such a event would be enough.

IIRC the Rob Lee testimonial funds were given to a local hospital (Last testimonial?) - I would imagine SHearer would do the same.

Celtic? Bollox. Blackburn, Southampton or a ShearerXI - nothing else would be remotely acceptable. Similar to the Shearer XI if we play Blackburn or Southampton they should defo bring backm some of the older players that no longer play there (or anywhere) - Sutton, Le Seaux, Le Tissier, Etc.

I would like to see Shearer bring his old '96 team back for a game, that would be worth paying to watch.

I think Shearer has earned enough out of the game, it might be good if he gave the money to a good cause.  Niall Quinn has a unit named after him at Sunderland General, Shearer could do the same for the Freeman or RVI.

Celtic are scum. Why should we have to play them. I doubt Alan even wants them bastards coming down himself. blueupset.gif

Even Shearer himself would agree that he doesn't need the money - hence him saying he would give it to the NSPCC.  I'm sorry, but to Ramblers, saying he doesn't even deserve a testimonial is abhorent, disgusting and downright degrading.  Are you a Mackem in disguise?

That's class of Shearer if he's giving it to a kids charity, well done Sir Alan.

That would be class and much better than celtic, they always take this type of game very seriously and it spoils the atmosphere. In any game like this I have seen them play, the other team fields a team of ex-players and current players who are just there for a kick about, celtic then field there strongest team and fly in with challenges and go a goal up.

Or even a 30 minute "fun match" with a Newcastle XI with the likes of Albert, Keegan, Gullit  bluewink.gif, Beardsley, Lee, Batty, Ferdinand, etc. against a "Shearer's Friends XI" side with Le Tissier, Sheringham, Flowers, Hendry, Sherwood, Sutton, etc. before the main event.
