Title: Its so sad that Shearer is a shadow of his former self
Post by: GLENEAGLE on October 23, 2005, 03:39:55 PM
From the best player in the world to a nothing player now. I feel so down that this has happened to him and im sure he knows it himself but he will never admit to it because of the pride in the man.
Shearer was awful today, did nothing at all and Caldwell didnt have much to do today. The days where Shearer could win us countless headers have now gone. He really offers us feck all, i feel so sad that he is a shadow of his former self. Even last year, he could do well enough but it seems that this season, he has got even worse than last year. His age is being exposed and it really hurts me to see it and im sure it hurts alot of you guys too, sadly  bluecry.gif

He knows he isnt who he was.

I think he'll rule himself out of matches, when Luque and Owen are back.

Yeah, but him staying on has saved us a few quid, we stuggled to get players in (strikers) this summer how hard would it have been if he had left?

He was doing well at first, because the service was coming, and he was actually winning some headers, but once that game started to slog down in the second half, he had no chance.

This game should have been his, he has now proven that he cant perform in any match for us in the future.

Which other game will inspire him to perform like old this coming season? This one, and he was terrible.

He is tarnishing his reputation, and destroying his legacy at this club.

I feel very sorry for him, and us.

Ameobi & Owen up front until Luque is fit, then have another look at things.

Ameobi has yet to prove he can perform consistently. He played well against Man U last season, scoring the goal too, but faded after that game. If Ameobi reverts back to his usual self again for the next few games, I'd rather we give Chopra a run-in for several games to see how he fares.

Was better against Wigan, but truly anonimus today. We didn't bomb long balls at him all day, hence his ineffectiveness. We played through other players instead and scored 3 goals. It's not a coincidence.

well said, sadly. there was a moment in the first half where solano hit a clever little pass to ameobi who fashioned enough space to shoot. kelvin davis could only get a hand onto it and push it out towards the penalty spot. that would've been a shearer goal 3 years ago, or an owen goal if he had've been fit, as it was, he was nowhere near it at all.

Those were exactly my thoughts at that moment

Theres only one value in having shearer in the side, aside from his link up play.

He draws defenders to him like a magnet; as atmo hes still living off his reputation, then teams are set up to mark him closely.  This ofcourse helps the rest of the team to take advantage of space left undefended.

If you replay the first goal, youll see that the defenders followed shearer,(actually the goal was like a penguin parade at the arctic, the way they all walked away from goal en mass)  and shola got clear unmarked.  ok so probly someone else got in the way of his marker, but i d make a pointless observation as i am good at them )
