Title: Aye Shola Post by: Number 9 on October 11, 2005, 04:55:45 PM Code: https://home.skysports.com/list.asp?hlid=315281&cpid=8&CLID=4&lid=&title=Ameobi+aims+for+starting+role&channel=premiership Quote: Shola Ameobi is eager to establish himself in the Newcastle first team this season. With Michael Owen's recent arrival at St James' Park, it seems likely that Ameobi will be in for a frustrating season on the bench, but the striker is determined to play his part. "It is a challenge for me to stay involved with the first team," Ameobi told the club's official website. "It's all about challenges, that's what spurs us all on. Michael Chopra is doing the same in the reserves; he wants to prove he's worth a chance." Ameobi is hoping to shake off a calf injury he picked up playing for the second team on Monday, so that he can respond to criticism he received after the Portsmouth game. "If I get the chance at Wigan I'll be a lot sharper than I was at Portsmouth, and the team will get a lot more out of me than they did at Portsmouth," he promised. "I just have to keep giving it my all and keep giving it my best and hopefully it will turn for me. I'm confident it will." What an idiot. Does this still seriously think that he is good enough to play for a Premier League side? Title: Re: Aye Shola Post by: Paul Mosley on October 11, 2005, 05:00:02 PM Quote: Ameobi – 4 – Words fail me. He was abysmal for the RESERVES last night. He's 24 tomorrow, been in and around the 1st team squad for 5 years and has, if anything, gone backwards. Surely it's time for him to move on? Title: Re: Aye Shola Post by: Number 9 on October 11, 2005, 05:02:07 PM We can only pray eh?
Title: Re: Aye Shola Post by: elbee909 on October 11, 2005, 05:02:35 PM I'm all for someone having confidence in themselves, but he does seem rather delusional. Shame as I had high hopes for him.
Title: Re: Aye Shola Post by: Benwell Lad on October 11, 2005, 05:10:30 PM Yeah but when the only realistic option is the immobile Shearer losing posession all the time, then maybe it is time to give Shola an extended run alongside someone other than Shearer to see how he does.
Only ever playing alongside Shearer and having our shit fans having a go at him for a while now (during matches) has not helped him to progress. Title: Re: Aye Shola Post by: Dan on October 11, 2005, 05:14:49 PM i'd like to see him start alongside owen..see what they look like as a partnership. shearer has been looking his age recently.

Maybe once he looks interested, sorts out what his apparent horlicks addiction does to his awful reactions and situational awareness, and can hit a cows arse with a banjo, maybe he can go in the papers and say "I've improved a bit".
Same as Jenas, the reason he gets stick from people is that he keeps banging on about playing for England, being really good next season, next game etc while constantly doling out utterly mediocre performances. Title: Re: Aye Shola Post by: Leazes1986 on October 11, 2005, 06:07:22 PM Hes shit.

shola is more mobile, give him a go with Owen Title: Re: Aye Shola Post by: billybucknuts on October 11, 2005, 07:27:14 PM Quote from: Bowyer4eva86 on October 11, 2005, 07:24:39 PM neither Shearer or Shola can score goals can I have some of what you've been smoking? But I'd think it would be better for both newcastle and for ameobi's own career if he moves on, he makes himself look stupid with these comments. You just are'nt good enough lad......

Title: Re: Aye Shola Post by: Northern Monkey on October 12, 2005, 09:43:08 AM Shearer may be past it now - and there's not much evidence to dispute this - but that is no reason to pretend that Shola is any good.
He's a Portsmouth player, pure and simple. He's has NOT got potential, and he will NOT come on if he gets a chance in the Premiership. Everyone can stop hopoing/praying/pretending that he will come good, because its nor going to happen. Its a shame, but its true. We need probably 2 new strikers again. Title: Re: Aye Shola Post by: pangkf79 on October 12, 2005, 10:24:41 AM Shola and Big Al pair don't really works, since both lack of pace.
Personally, i would like to see Chorpa and Owen pair up. --> let their skill and pace tear of opposite defence. Title: Re: Aye Shola Post by: BurtonMag on October 12, 2005, 12:15:57 PM chopra is shite...
he's been a reserve player for years now, and isnt really worth a shot in the first team. our youth setup must be shit. we produce **** all.. exceptions being hughes and taylor. toon u18's played ryton u18's in the fa youth cup last night. toon won 1-0, but were played off the park, by a team made up of lads who knock about with my brother. ryton hit the bar twice. i know its only under 18's, but those players are meant to be our future. Title: Re: Aye Shola Post by: Northern Monkey on October 12, 2005, 12:17:42 PM Don't worry, there's another Ameobi coming through....and he's even "better" than the first one! bluelaugh.gif

Chopra's not shit, i'd like to see what you'd back that up with. Title: Re: Aye Shola Post by: bobyule on October 12, 2005, 12:30:06 PM Most of the time over the last couple of years, Shola has been coming on as a sub, or having to play with Shearer. Neither gives the guy a proper chance. Let's see how he does with Owen before passing final judgement.
As for Chopra, I don't think there's any particular aspect of his game that's sufficiently strong to worry a Premiership defence. Title: Re: Aye Shola Post by: BurtonMag on October 12, 2005, 12:33:08 PM i know he rarely plays in our first team... but does he ever look threatening or dangerous?
ive seen him in reserves, and yes he looks ok playing for them, but its a totally different level. would you seriously want chopra in our first 11? theres a reason sholas ahead of him in pecking order...and think how good shola is Title: Re: Aye Shola Post by: clarkyshan on October 12, 2005, 03:41:03 PM shola= how can anyone defend this plank year younger than owen and still supposed to come good.
chopra= scored regular at every level apart from first team how anyone can slate him after six first team app (4 sub) is a joke aint had 1 of sholas nine lives shearer= living legend lost legs but still up top and danger from air will finish anything easy and pens. He's certainly not as good as Shola - a better natural goal scorer, but offers less to the team as a whole. He'll end up having a brilliant career, just not at Newcastle - sadly. What he said, with the additions of "which is a damning indictment" after 'not as good as shola', and "and in the Championship" after 'not at Newcastle'.
