Just played my first match on it, and it's absolutely fucking AWESOME.

It's just UBER smooth, the passing is fantastic - it now actually feels like you have to work your way through your oponent, rather than just effortlessly dribble from just beyond the half way line. The defending is better, the shooting has improved AND the goalkeepers actually seem half decent for once. Haven't noticed any needlessly frustrating fouls either.

The only questionable thing I've noticed is that I somehow scored a spectacular 30 yard volley with THOMAS GRAVESON; but then, it was never going to be perfect, so...

I played PES 3 on my pc, with edited, realistic stats (Shearer pace acceleration 99) as Konami fucked up bigtime and got the stats wrong but still it was ok but a lot easier to play on the PS2, I am the daddy at PES4

There's an 'extender' been released for the demo, which basically allows you to change the match time, switch injuries on/off, change teams' conditions etc.

It can be downloaded from any one of these links:

https://s8.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0MVWD302RZ1ZD2RON4XHMXZNVM

https://s8.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3L0Y4RQQJKR3212WV63XGZ3DHP

https://s8.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=128E8BVF1NPNE1AJMQXO1LDCIU

https://s8.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0ZEN7JKF5KPQ61AZ82LG9HFRP7

https://s8.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3QWK4WRFLR0OC2SY3NGUXO5XAS

https://s8.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=366UZ1MAHVAL33OANJAUVYIEF0

https://s8.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2KP94DZKFLW5Y1VFCUS405U2WR

https://s8.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=01EO0A7V9NN8I3DESE5I5LLX73

Once you've downloaded the zip file, you need to extract the .exe file into the same directory as the PES5 exe, you then double click it to start the game.

When you're on the match settings menu, you press the following keys to edit the greyed out settings:

F1 - Changes time to 5 minutes
F2  10 minutes
F3 - 15
F4 - 20
F5 - 25
F6 - 30
F7 - Injuries on
F8 - Injuries off
F9 - Entrance on
F10 - " off
F11 - Stadium effects on
F12 - " " Off
Ins - Home team condition lower
Del - Home team condition higher
Home - Away team condition lower
End - Away team condition higher
Pgup - Substitutes higher
Pgdn - Substitutes lower

Then flick back on forth between the two pages to verify your settings (L1 and R1 if you're using a control pad).

I shall give that a try.

BTW, if anyone's interested the PC demo of FIFA 06 is available at
https://footballcommunity.ea.com/

It allows you to play one half of a game and play as one of 5 teams

Man U, Barcelona, Milan, PSG or Bayern Munich

and play at two of the newly added stadiums,
Millennium Stadium or Azteca.

Right, d/loaded it finally and I'm having problems - 2, possibly connected. First of all, it seems to think I've got down and right permanently pressed. I can only operate the menus using the up and left buttons, whilst in a match, the players just dribble DR (or R if I press U). The other thing is that, despite me setting it as the peripheral of choice, it doesn't seem to recognise my controller. This is the first time I've actually used it, so I may well be fucking something up on that front, though - its Play.com's converter, if any of you know it.

Edit: Oh yeah, and another problem. That time extending mod fucks up the graphics on mine, sort of half-scrambles them.

You need to go into the button configuration screen and click on the "ps2 controller" setting, or whatever it's called.

You'll get a screen up with a picturer of a control pad. Basicaly, you have to double click on each box, and press the corresponding button on your controller with the picture of the button in the box (so double-click the box with the picture of the L2 button to the right, then press the L2 button on your pad). Repeat for every button.

Not sure about the second problem...

Title: Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 5 Demo Released (PC)
Post by: Andy on September 16, 2005, 11:16:35 AM
On the match settings screen - the screen after you've selected the teams.

Once you've changed all the settings, it's best to change the difficulty level up then down to confirm the changes.

I love PES4, I can't stop playing it its amazing.

This demo is good, a few annoying things like the keepers always rush out too quickly. Also feels a bit arcadey if that makes sense.

I enjoyed it though, bloody hard on 3 star though but I remember feeling the same when I bought PES4 it took me ages to move to 4/5 star.

Yeah i've got that, its weird. I had it on the demo of PES 3 and PES 4 aswell, but then iv always gone on to buy the full version for PS2 instead, so i dont know whether it sorts out in the final release. Probably not. Very odd, cos my machine's quite high spec aswell.

Pro Evo is the easiest to get the hang of. It looks really smart and I will get it.
FIFA has the advantage of the official licences, plus it has more teams, and the career option. Also within a few weeks of release, the FIFA Music changer is available to download, which means that you can create your own game soundtrack, get rid of all the tunes you don't like and replace them with those you do. I'm sorry, but that music on Pro Evo is very quickly annoying.

Gameplay wise, FIFA 2005 was a big big improvement, and FIFA 06 looks to be similar.
Once you get into FIFA, it's great to play.

Graphics wise, both look brilliant.

I'll be buying both, but I think FIFA looks to shade it.

The gameplay on FIFA is piss-poor compared to Pro Evo.

The horizontal line on your screen is due to vsync being turned off by default for the game. nVidia card users can turn it on by going into the control panel/display/settings/advanced/GeForce xxxx/Performance and Quality Settings. Change the vertical sync to on and you should be ok.

Also note that running the game at 800x600 on low detail seems to improve the gameplay on any system, no matter how powerful. Although I assume this will be fixed for the retail version.

Complaining about the music must be the most minor niggle ever. Just do what I do and turn it off completely and run winamp alongside the game.

If you are buying the PC version of PES5 then licensing is never going to be an issue for you. Give it a few weeks and kitserver will be available and people will be banging out the latest kits for all the included teams. If that's too much of a hassle to set up then I'm sure you'll find complete update patches with all the proper kits, nike boots etc. within a couple of months.

I'm doing it with an ATI, actually, but my question is - does it matter if its left on permanently? In fact, should I have had it permanently set on all along?

Having Vsync on all the time won't cause any problems. It will just stop the framerate in certain games going above that of which your monitor supports. Stops the screen tear in the process.

Having tried it with it on, I'm still getting the problem, actually, but it seems slightly different. Its not quite as severe, but it seems to pop up more randomly, as opposed to a fairly consistent descending line.

Pro Evo is so much better than FIFA it defies sense to even mention the two games together. Pro Evo is just more like real football wheareas FIFA is too arcadey.
