Title: "They played crap at Manchester City" -- Sam Post by: gazza ladra on October 26, 2007, 07:24:20 AM Allardyce pins blame on Taylor (https://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,,2199612,00.html)
Damn straight.   Quote "He will be very frustrated at the moment," said Allardyce, "but it's not about me dropping players, it's about players dropping themselves. They played crap at Manchester City. If you play that badly, you're likely to lose your shirt. Players have to realise that one poor performance can cost you your place." Although Taylor has fallen from favour, Allardyce believes the 21-year-old will learn from the harsh experience, as well as from his new team-mate Claudio Cacapa. "He needs to be able to read the game," Allardyce added. "You can't rely on your physical qualities to get you out of trouble. He's got me and Nigel Pearson here to coach him and we were two ugly b****** centre-halves, so that helps. "However, the perfect example for Steven to watch would be Claudio. What me and Nigel can show Steven on the training ground, Claudio can do in a match. He's not as quick as Steven, he's not as young as Steven, but his brain puts him in positions that mean he can nip the danger in the bud before the forward has even got there." Nice that someone can tell it how it is, and is not frightened of c***s like Taylor.
Title: Re: "They played crap at Manchester City" -- Sam Post by: Dr Spectrum on October 26, 2007, 10:27:18 AM So why didn't he drop Butt. He was the worst player on the pitch IMO.
Title: Re: "They played crap at Manchester City" -- Sam Post by: RodrigoPalacio on October 26, 2007, 10:28:53 AM Cos' he's been dropped before, whereas Taylor hasn't? PLus dropping a 31 year old wouldn't have the same effect as dropping a 21 year old.

Title: Re: "They played crap at Manchester City" -- Sam Post by: jimmy1982 on October 26, 2007, 10:35:36 AM So why didn't he drop Butt. He was the worst player on the pitch IMO. He means if you play badly you are likely to lose the shirt, not you absolutely definitely will lose the shirt. For a start we had Faye and Cacapa waiting to play centre half, whereas in midfield we've only got Geremi to take over from Butt and so far Sam has showed a preference for having the both of them in there. His decision has been proved correct cos Butt has been tremendous in the last couple of matches, as have Faye and Cacapa. Title: Re: "They played crap at Manchester City" -- Sam Post by: jimmymag on October 26, 2007, 04:51:30 PM Taylor is still young and he's got a lot to learn but I still think he'll come through and be a very good centre half for us. And I wouldn't be surprised if he was our captain eventually.
It's typical of some "supporters" to be writing him off at this stage in his career. Perhaps this is just the kick up the arse he needed, and now he can stop believing his own hype and start working hard to improve his game and fulfill his potential. I still do..tbh he IS a good commanding defender, just needs someone to give him proper guidence and lets hope this someone is Allardyce. Title: Re: "They played crap at Manchester City" -- Sam Post by: johnnypd on October 27, 2007, 12:28:30 AM taylor wasn't such a bad shout for captain considering the squad we had before sam brought any players in. i would've wanted Solano ahead of him as he showed good leadership and organisation skill at RB last season, whle he's also intelligent and after a childhood growing up in a shanty town doesn't suffer fools gladly. can't think of any other obvious candidates other than butt or owen who i don't see as captain types.

You want him to be captain ahead of the likes of Geremi, Cacapa, Beye, Barton and Butt? Title: Re: "They played crap at Manchester City" -- Sam Post by: merlin on October 27, 2007, 06:43:43 AM I've said before - he lacks pace, and for someone of his age, he should have enough to make up for lack of experience ; I don't even think he can match Capaca for pace, and he is 31 - also, Capaca reads the game far better, so he looks 3 times the player.
Taylor also fouls people after getting himself into difficult situations by poor anticipation - this can be costly, both in terms of conceding goals, and getting himself sent off - we don't need those risks with the squad we currently have. Title: Re: "They played crap at Manchester City" -- Sam Post by: sittingontheball on October 27, 2007, 10:12:49 AM Good stuff from BSA. Personally I don't think Citeh are all that good. Not that we are yet either.
As for Cacapa, its not just positioning and reading the game. He takes the ball off people sometimes with the consumate ease. I don't know if you can teach the block tackle, but he's a master of it. I don't know what you're referring to but I've never said that. I've consistently said that Taylor's one of the most promising 'young' centre halves in the country and I hope he can fulfill his potential at NUFC. To include him in the team regardless of form would be stupid now wouldn't it??? Title: Re: "They played crap at Manchester City" -- Sam Post by: madras on October 28, 2007, 08:26:31 PM yes allardyce they played crap at citeh and they must take some of the blame for it but are you going to take blame aswell for your tactics in that game ?
