been listening to the new Rolling Stones album, and having feared the worst, it's actually a return to form and has some great songs on, Keith and Mick have apparantly become a lot closer again after Charlie got throat cancer and it really shows in their writing after a lot of poor albums this should be a fitting end to their legacy.

I love it when a song changes tempo or kicks into the chorus and it’s so deleriously good that the grin on my face can’t be abated. Sat at work today I was listening to Sufjan Stevens (again) and 2:22 into “Come On! Feel The Illinoise” the piano and horns start going mental and the strings join in and it’s just a glorious interlude. People were asking me what was wrong because I’m normally such a grumpy get.

Other ‘bits’ that do this to me are….

Les Fleur by 4Hero - 4 minutes and 24 seconds in the choir all jump in and go at it full pelt.
Two Thousand Places by The Polyphonic Spree – All their stuff is euphoric but 3 minutes and 35 seconds into this the outro starts and I do a little dance with my legs under my desk.
Liquid Swords by Genius/GZA – 1 minute 28 seconds in the driving beat starts that never lets up for the rest of the song. Could’ve been done on a bontempi organ and it’s fantastic.
Straight Street by The Fiery Furnaces - At 3:25 a single keyboard note is held and it sends shivers up my back. It’s just lush. Gives me a hard-on it’s so good.

Anyone else?

EDIT:  Anyone else have certain favourite 'bits'?  I didn't mean does anyone else get a hard on at that point of straight Street.

Pulp Fiction Soundtrack

My favourite soundtrack to any film.

Standout tracks:

Dick Dale - Miserlou probably the most famous track from the film, it features in the very first scene.

The Centurians - Bullwinkle Part II this track starts with the "Zed's dead" dialogue, it is played when Vincent is on his way to pick up Mia.

The Lively Ones - Surf Rider this is the track that is playing when Vincent and Jules are leaving the restaurant in the final scene. Excellent track.

Al Green - Let's Stay Together from the scne when Butch meets Marcellus, to discuss throwing the boxing match. One of my favourite tracks of all-time.

The Revels - Commanche from the infamous "gimp" scene, great track.

Urge Overkill - Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon from the scene when mia and Vincent arrive back at Mia's place, when she discovers his heroin stash, and then all the shit begins.

All in all, a fantastic soundtrack, although it obviously helps if you've seen the film before, as there is sections of dialogue.

not bad eh?  blueyes.gif He is definately a special composer, still working and he's quite experimental and I like that, he did the soundtrack to a videogame which was like an homage to the spaghetti westerns he did with Sergio. I agree that overall The Queen Is Dead is the better album, allthough Meat Is Murder contains my favourite Smiths' track, How Soon Is Now, and That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore is also a brilliant track.

My favourite album on a personal note is Hatful Of Hollow (whilst also being the inspiration for my username), this was the album that got me into The Smiths, as I only really bought the album because I had heard How Soon Is Now and bought the album for a fiver. This Night Has Opened My Eyes is another fantastic track from Hatful Of Hollow.

Is hatful of hollow a smiths compilation as there are songs on it which appear on other albums by the band. I.e. how soon is now (meat is murder), This charming man (The Smiths). A song im loving at the moment from the smiths is 'back to the old house' which as you know also appears on hatful of hollow

Most of the tracks are radio sessions, recorded for Peel and Kid Jensen, and also B-sides. This gives the album a more raw feel, and serves as a greate introduction to the band.

I'm listening to This Night Has Opened My Eyes now, brilliant track, which talks about a young mother abandoning her newborn baby.

That album was pure gold.  I hope I don't regret that statement as it was a few years ago, but I loved it.  Shame a whole host of bands came out sounding exactly like them, "The Calling".  Pants.

My Sacrifice was the best, but my favourite from the album was... be ****ed if I can remember the name.  6 Feet From The Edge, or something like that.

Christian Rock~!  Would be correct in saying they are, aye?

Think so, aye. Don't think I even know any of their other stuff to be honest. Apparently they've split up now, just read it.

Don't mind a bit of Christian Rock as long as it sounds good. Loved POD's album Satellite.

Don't think their other albums were up to much, I remember having 3, thinking 2 were crap and the last was great.

POD were pretty good, lead singer was the spit of Bret Hart.  Went to see them, don't remember much, but I THINK I enjoyed it.  Not a favourite or anything, but a gig's a gig.

Just remembered, One Last Breath was the song I liked.  Ah, the memories.

Just checked where the songs came from on Anka's album.  Since when was Spandau Ballet, Lionel Ritchie and Michael Jackson rock?

Average, the good songs are good, bad ones are shocking.

Support at Northumbria was Kaito.  People didn't seem too keen, but I thought they were lush.  Some great heavy rock which I wasn't expecting at a Bloc party gig.  I'll be looking out for an EP or summat in the next few month.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'm very set in my ways, in terms of what i will and won't listen to. I don't venture outside my comfort zone too often, and tend to stick with Tool & Portishead and the very few artists who don't produce the cliched rubbish so often heard on commercial radio.

Good to see that Fiona Apple has released a new CD - something i was oblivious to before i checked the site. Her new release - EMI refused to release it for nearly 2 years because it wasn't R&B or "radio friendly" - from the reviews i've read seems to be one of those "love it, or hate it" type of albums, so i'll have to listen to sample downloads before buying it.

Good to see

Any rock fans been listening to Hypermagic Mountain by Lightning Bolt?

Absoloutley Fan-bloody-tastic.  I think Death from above 1979 try to recreate the Bass/Drum genius, but for me they tone it down a bit much.  Lightning bolt turn it up to 11 and make more of a racket than slipknot but with less than a third of the instruments and better riffs.

I loved Mezmerize, and was looking forward to Hypnotize, but it's hardly had a look in because "why have a burger when you can have steak?"

lots and lots of the cure,

question for the metalheads, I used to be a massive metal head and even played drums for a pub metal band, but I got pissed off with the genre, being Christian isn't conducive, but also most metal bands seem to sing exclusively about how good they are, I mean they have the ear of millions of fans and all they can think of to say is "I'm so good" what's with that?

Still love the music but can't stand the attitude

cant beat a bit of jools holland and his rythym and blues orchestra! Swinging the blues dancing the ska!

To whoever asked the question to metalheads: i dont really find that kind of attitude in the metal i listen to? most of it is about despair and crap like that. what type of metal do you listen to? i find that attitude mainly in hip hop personally.

I know what you mean about hip-hop that puts me off that Genre also (in a side not there is a fantastic documentary series called sex and pop, one episode investigated the whole pimps n ho's thing in hip hop, fantastic doco). The metal I was referring to was bands like Machine Head and Pantera (before people start thinking I wasn't much of a metal head I really was into them before they were cool), I spent along time without buying any metal albums but I bought the Devil Driver album "Fury of our Maker's hand" which really has some excellent music, especially like the drumming, also I was given Mudvayne lost and found which I enjoy a lot of.

I recently heard an 80's pop style (I have no idea when this version was done or the original) version of that. Female singer that sounded a bit like like Bjork (is that how her name is spelt?), the music on the song reminded me a bit of "Six Different Ways" by the Cure.

White Stripes - Denial Twist

The video for this track is impressive, as is custom with most of White Stripes' best videos it is directed by Michel Gondry, he is arguably the most talented music video director around today, such a unique style. His DVD is excellent, although it doesn't completely cover his  videography.

I had a song in my head all morning and I couldn't for the life of me think what it was, Just done a search on the Lyrics and it was I Turn My Camera On by Spoon.  A proper bit of sleazy pop.

So now I'm listening to Gimme Fiction by Spoon.  The funny thing is I only listened to it the once a few months ago and wasn't too keen.  I'm loving it this time around though.
