The moderation team is here to keep the forums safe, sane, and secure. These rules are here to help us do that, and to ensure that these forums are of the highest quality.  Read them.  Know them.  Please do not try to cleverly circumvent them.  Below is a list of Forum rules, and the consequences that go along with breaking them.  Thanks for reading and enjoy your stay!

Note that repeated ignorance towards ANY individual rule can (and will) result in a permanent ban, at the discretion of the moderation team.

Posting Rules

2 DAY BAN
Txt Speak: This is simply annoying and pointless.  This is an internet forum and not a mobile phone, and some of us actually enjoy reading words.  If you post a message made primarily of txt speak, you will be banned for 2 days.

Forum Spam: Even though there are no post-counts here, some of you may want to flood the forums by posting nonsense in every thread.  That will cost you a 2 day ban.  We don't want to stop you replying to each thread, but if we spot pointless replies like "what a sandwich" over and over again, prepare for a 2 day break from the forums.

1 WEEK BAN
Flame Wars: If you simply must trade personal insults with a fellow forum user, exchange addresses, do it over e-mail and keep it off the forums.  If a thread becomes totally derailed by two or more parties insulting each other repeatedly with no regard for the thread topic, all parties involved will be banned for 1 week.

Abuse: DO NOT ABUSE YOUR FELLOW FORUM USERS.  Threats of violence and extreme insults will be an immediate 1 week ban.  The internet is a place of free expression, and it’s difficult to put absolute parameters in place, so we ask you to use your best judgment.  Be forewarned that the moderators will also be using their best judgment when reading posts that could be considered abusive. Our decisions are final, so play it safe.

2 WEEK BAN
Malicious Links/Theft of Intellectual Property: If you post a malicious link (any URL with spyware or code designed to annoy people) you will be banned for 2 weeks. No warez, no cracks, no CD codes, no illegal programs that are used to either crack software or perform any malicious activity are allowed.  These things attract the dregs of the Internet, and we'd rather keep these people out.  Illegal football streams are very popular, but could also get this site into serious trouble.  Don't post links to them, either.

Repeated Harassment: If you are being harassed on the forums by another forum member, please sort it out over PM or e-mail with them before contacting a mod.  Remember, abuse and flame wars do not constitute harassment.  If we find that the harassment is real and extreme, the guilty party will be banned for 2 weeks.

4 WEEK BAN
Personal Details: Please respect the division between the internet and real life.  If you post another user’s personal information (phone number, address, private e-mail) you will be banned for 4 weeks.

Pornographic material: Do not post (or link to) pornographic content of any kind.  In the case of avatars and signature files, a moderator may ask you to change these items (or may change them for you) but you will not be banned unless this guideline is repeatedly ignored.  If you make a post with pornographic, you will be banned for 4 weeks.  We understand the difference between “racy” and “pornographic” and we ask you do as well.  These images can get the site shut down, so we take this very seriously.

Libelous Claims: Do not post false or speculative statements about the personal lives of public figures.  These claims can get newcastle-online into legal trouble that we'd like to avoid.  What's libel?

OK: "I saw Joe Striker in Greggs and he was fat."
NOT OK: "I saw Joe Striker in Greggs.  He is gay."
NOT OK but FUNNY FOR US: "I saw Joe Striker in Greggs and I know from personal experience that he is gay."

PERMANENT / IP BAN
Ticket Touting: Do not promote or engage in any ticket touting activity on these forums, as it could lead to an enforced shutdown.  Violators will be IP banned, and their IPs will be reported to NUFC.

Racism/Bigotry: We will not stand for racism of any kind on this forum.  We understand that people can have dialog about race without being racist, and such dialog is welcome.  Racial epithets and derogatory comments will result in an immediate IP ban.

Ban Evasion: If you are banned for ANY reason and you log in under a different username, your IP will be banned.  We are very clever and have ways of telling these things.


If you break one of the above rules, your name will appear in the "House of the Banned" (https://www.newcastle-online.com/nufcforum/index.php/board,34.0.html) forum followed by the rule you broke and a link to the post(s) in question. This is done so users can see exactly what constitutes a violation of the rules.  We will do our best to leave the guesswork out of our moderation, so everyone will know exactly how far is too far.


Duplicate threads: Before you start a thread, please use the forum's search facility to make sure the content of your post is not already covered in another thread.

Correct forum: Please try to be sure you post any new threads you start in the correct forum. If you're not sure where you're thread should go, check with a moderator.

One Liners: When starting a thread, please refrain from using one liners. If you're posting an article or image from another website, please include a link to the source. Also, when posting an article or image, try to stick a few lines underneath to start up the discussion.

Anonymous Sourcing: As said above; please don't do this. If you copy and paste from a source, please provide a link. Please don't copy and paste from subscription sites, you might get us in trouble.

Headline spin: Please try and make thread titles as descriptive as possible of the thread's actual content.

Posting 'pointless' threads: Please don't spam the NUFC Forum with pointless threads, which contribute absolutely nothing to the forum whatsoever, or are started with the specific purpose of winding other users up. These will be summarily closed, unless they are very, very funny.

News Articles: When posting a link to an online news story, please post the text as well.  This is convenient for everyone, and helps those who have certain sites blocked from their servers for whatever reason.
