The last group we had was boring. This looks much more exciting.

I'd rather play some decent teams and get knocked out early on than fumble our way past some second-rate clubs and then go out when we meet someone half decent in the knock-out stages.

Incidentally, the general standard of the teams in the draw looked a lot higher than last time. Is there a reason for that?

Reckon if we can get through this then we have a fair shout of going all the way tbh. Espec if we buy a new back 4 in Jan. Im strangely pleased by the draw and unrealistically confident we will be fine.

I'm glad we're not away to Fener, for the sake of our travelling fans tbh.

I'm much happier and am looking forward to this a lot more than I would have been had we just been drawn against 4 knackers.  This is a European competition and it's meant to be difficult.  If we can't beat these teams then we don't deserve to go any further in it.  At least now we'll have some PROPER European nights at SJP instead of the usual excuses for European competition we've got used to, followed by us going out with a "Eh, how come we're playing someone half decent all of a sudden" whimper when it gets down to the last 8 or 4.

I think Tottenham's group is a lot easier than our's. Dinamo Bucharest and Club Brugge are weaker than any team in our group and Besiktas are nowhere near Fenerbahce in Turkey.

It's not an easy draw... but i'm dead chuffed. The only team i can see us losing to is Palermo, who are a great side. Celta are nmothing special and i think it would be great to have Fenerbahce at St James'. Glad those two are on home turf.

This was kind of the draw i was hoping for. If you were to look at may article from yesterday, what i said was that we need some good sides at St James' Park, who will actually have a go at us and we can play a better game. I'm very pleased that we avoided Alkmaar, disappointed at getting Palermo mind. They are a very good side and will be incredibly difficult to beat over there.

Frankfurt shouldn't be too bad i don't think - there's three points for the taking. Celta aren't a great side by any means - another three points i reckon. Palermo - we'll lose. Fenerbahce, we've got every chance of winning especially at St James' Park. A draw is what i reckon, though.

So - 7 points from those games, which should see us through. The key game is the first one though. We HAVE to beat Frankfurt. Beat Frankfurt, and we've got a very good chance of going through.

Besiktas is a JOKE.  Their only recent achievements came through shady deals with the President of the Turkish Football Assoc.
Fenerbace is a tough side, however they are always ready to be in turmoil.  If they are on a good mood, they could knock-out any team in Europe (e.g.  ManU 0-3)
But they can lose to the worst of worst teams if they are having a bad night...especially with the defence they have.

Besiktas aren't great... but Dinamo Bucharest would be a bastard of a trip. Have they got them home or away? If Spurs have got Leverkusen and Bucharest away, that's two losses just about nailed on IMO.

I've never been to a European away game of Newcastle but I've decided with a mate of mine that we'll drive off to Frankfurt for this one. It's about a 4 houre drive, then after the game we'll have a one night stay in Frankfurt and drive back home on Friday.

As for Fenerbahce I think their main threat would have been Nicolas Anelka as our defence cant handle pace but now he is at Bolton we need not worry. I think with us being at home we should win although i certainly wouldnt have fancied us going to Turkey. I'm happy with who we have got home and away as i can see us picking up 6 at home and hopefully 1 or 3 away which will be enough to qualify!

This year the new first goalkeeper is impressive.
Markus Pröll, former U21 international. Watched his performance against Schalke and Stuttgart...amazing.

Than they have a pretty good defense. Vasoski is one of the best defender in Die Bundesliga.
Against Bröndby he scores two goals. I am not suprised that Newcastle is watching him since a while.
Kyriakos was also impressive against Bröndby. Spycher is good on the left, he is swiss international.

In Midfield new signing Streit is dangerous, especially when it comes to free kicks or corners.
An there is Alexander Meier, tall and good in heading.
As attackers they have Amanatidids, pretty good greek international and Michael Thurk (new signing from Mainz). Thurk scores 3 goals against Bröndby.

And than... there are the eintracht supporters. Most people say that they are the best fans in Germany.
The stadium is fantastic. It would be a great athmosphere.
I think at home. Newcastle would win easily...but away... this pretty young eintracht team has no fear and when they have a good day they can beat everyone in this group at home.

But tbh, I reckon newcastle to end up 1st in this group. I've been watching all teams lately, although I only saw the european game
of fener against kiev, I did saw palermo and celta. Palermo although 2nd in the league, we will play them at home. And I don't think palermo has the experience or culture to be a success in europe. West ham was a complete joke, so I don't rate palermo that high. I do reckon they'll end up 3rd. Celta will end up 4th, they are not that good.However, frankfurt is a strange team, they have no defeats yet in the german league, I reckon they might end up 2nd, it'll be between palermo or frankfurt. And fener is a complete joke.
They have great players, but their coach sucks tbh, he still lives in the 70's of brasil, plays with 4 attacking players.
It's true that their midfield is weak, if they had a decent coach they'd be favourites, but at the moment they have the bad luck we had with souness last year. If their coach plays a more balanced 4-4-2 I think fener will be 2nd. If they play the idiotic attacking style of 4-2-4 I don't see them doing much tbh, 5th place.

Overall, it's not that bad for us, I predict we win the fener game, the palermo game, a draw at celta,
a draw or win at frankfurt and we'll go at the top. Don't be that scared.

Group of Death? Sorry but no. We can & should beat Fenerbache and Celta at home, I´ve seen Celta already this season andt they´re not too hot... If the Fenerbache game was away then that would be different of course. I haven´t seen anything of Palermo but I understand they looked rather good against West Ham (but there again so did we!) and away will be a difficult game definately... I know nowt about Franfurt team, but from the YouTube vid their fans look like they enjoy themselves! :lol:

With the CL drop outs this season, this years Uefa maybe rather dificult prospect. ertainly more difficult than the last 2 years.

Yeah, we should be looking for a minimum of 7 points.  2 home wins and at least a draw at Frankfurt, and if we can get anything at Palermo that is a bonus.

Because we face legal action and closure if we break any copyright rules where footage, club imagery etc. is concerned. We've been warned a few times now. They already closed us for fixtures once. If the other site you used become an open forum to the public, and not membership only, they'd be on to that like a flash as well. We don't like it but who are we to argue, we just promote the game and our club, buy tickets, buy sky dishes etc.

Last time I checked your other haunt you had to log in to read?

I also get on On the Buses and i'm sure you don't need to be logged in to read that and youtube links aren't a problem on there, just other things like posting the name L****y C*******n are taboo.

EDIT Ah aye, you aren't allowed to post links to or actual premier league fixtures on Skunkers mind cos Windaz got an e-mail warning him not to, so i don't think the log in malarky really makes that much difference.

We got a warning about video clips, images from NUFC.co.uk, images captured from the telly (copyright Sky, Premier League etc.), even wallpapers and they've also tried to pull the gallery on the main site (****). I'm sick of it because it seems they are targeting us, yet other sites just don't seem to be targeted. Perhaps it is just our club who are ruthless in protecting their precious copyright and chasing up any tenuous violation.

If the other site you visit opened it's doors, they'd get the same shite as well. Sometimes I wonder whether we are actually being grassed but then I remember this is Newcastle United we are talking about, the club that takes its fans to court, calls them muppets and couldn't care less about fans so long as they turn over their pockets.

You did spend a large amount of time in feb/march making this site and its members well known to the club and the press. Did some of the clampdowns on linking to footage not come after that? I know the fixtures thing was ages ago.

Yup totally agree with Gemmil as well, if we don't beat them we don't deserve to go further anyways, if we don't beat these teams then it'll show that we're miles away from the championsleague, it'll be a good test, if we beat these teams and have a succesful group stage it'll mean we can still do well or atleast decently in the championsleague.

Of course we are able to qualify, as one of the top seeded teams we always should be, but you can't deny that we were dreadfully unlucky with the draw. If you compare our opponents to the other possible opponents, we got about the toughest one from every pot. Celta seems the strongest team from pot 2, maybe with Lens. Palermo is really by far the strongest team from pot 3. Fenerbahce seems, maybe with Livorno and Osasuna the strongest team from pot 4. And Frankfurt seems, together with Nancy, the strongest team with could have drawn from pot 5.
