Title: Scousers Vs Toon, official match thread
Post by: Nonsmoggeordie on December 26, 2005, 10:25:54 AM
I'd love it if we beat the scousers, love it!!

I'm f**king sick o death of them saying "owen will return" "he's really a liverpool great" "he's gonna sign for us" blah blah blah. The facts are he could have signed for either team or stayed at madrid and he chose NEWCASTLE UNITED. End of story. If he didn't want to be here, he wouldn't be here. Same goes for shearer, luque, emre, parker, given. They are Newcastle United Players and i for one think they are proud of it. Those going to anfield today will make one hell of a noise. Let's get behind the lads over this christmas period and lets get a top  finish this season.

HOWAY THE LADS!!!!!!!

and in Central midfield along with Emre?      blueeek.gif

Too many player coming back from injuries - fitness and touch concerns me.
Will Luque be up to the workload? Maybe Faye in the middle and Luque out wide? That is, a 442.  Also Ramage migt be best to start - Carr maybe given 30 mins since he has been out for so long. Ramage defends quite well and Carr could be an attacking option later if needed. If Harry plays there will be some defending to do. Ramage for me then.
Howay lads. 3 points. Nowt less.

if all the players rumored to be fit again are, i'd go with this:

Given    mr reliable

Carr            better than ramage IMO
Boumsong  keep your head up son, doing canny
Taylor          the saviour is back
Babayaro    blueconfused.gif

Solano  another goal/assist please
Faye    deserves his place
Emre  make a fool of gerrard, son
Luque  must be fit now

Shearer  get that record
Owen  bluebiggrin.gif

Given - thank god hes still here
Ramage - played mint lately deserves his chance
Boom - hes getting better
Taylor - Clean sheet looks for closer now
Baba - if he plays properly we can win

Nobby - obvious , crosses corners etc etc
Faye - Got stuck in played well lately deserves a shot
Emre - Wonderman is back :D
Shola - Luque aint match fit shola has played well and wins free kicks etc give him a chance

Owen - i wonder why
Al - 200 maybe ??

Bring on Luque in 2nd half for shola or al ( if hes fecked) he can play up front or leftmid

If everyone gets stick in and plays properly we will win, need an arsenal type of performance stop them doing the short stuff then the long balls to the BFG , taylor and boom will sort him out.

Pool 0 - 2 Toon - emre , owen

Howay the ladddddddddddddddddddddds

I can only guess that the Bounsong comment is based on a sympathy vote rather than his actual game.  Watch him today and he'll probably be dragged all over the back, his positional sense and heading ability must improve if we are to get anything out of the game today.

I'd rather have Ramage playing than Carr.

We've got the better keeper and better strikers than them, but there defence is miles better and with out Parker in the middle, faye needs to play out of his skin today, he's been better of late but still no scotty parker, it could well be make or break for Faye in my eyes today with Jan window nearly here. Baba, Emre, Zoggy and Taylor can't be match fit but we need to take a chance with some of them today, as they are at the stage that they need games anyway. Luque should surely be fit by now!

I'd start with:

                        Given
Ramage Taylor  Boumsong  Baba
Solano  Faye        Emre        Ameobi
            Shearer        Owen

Subs
Harper
Bramble
Bowyer (i'd preffer clarky)
Luque
N'zogbia

Solano is very ineffective for me and i know most will disagree, but if he's having a poor game i'd stick either Luque or Zoggy on the left and switch Ameobi to the right!

Given
Carr Boum Bramble Ramage
Solano Bowyer Emre N'Zog
Shearer Owen

Would be my starting line up. Otherwise Faye in for Zog, Emre on the LW.

Charlie Nicolas and Sky seem to think Owen is back at L'pool hmm

CHARLIE'S CHOICE

Michael Owen (Liverpool) - Obviously it will be quite an emotional day for Michael and not an easy one at all. I never had to go back to Highbury and face Arsenal, but I did it with Celtic and it is hard to retain your focus. You really want to go and do well against your old club and your old mates, but you can't get away from all the friends you have there, how much you love the supporters and that tends to take your edge away. Usually former players either go back and rob their old club or they end up having a stinker. Forget about Hyypia and Carragher knowing all about Michael as well, because let's face it, there is not exactly much to his game is there? But it is still remarkably effective and I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a goal against his old mates.
Does Nicholas know? Owen to score first is 6/1 with Sky Bet Click here for full odds!

Thats very different to Souness' normal formation, if true it must be a tailored Liverpool away formation, wonder what he has in mind ? Can see how it may be intended to nulify the Liverpool midfield as Owen and Ameobi can drop into midfield in defence.

After listening Radio Newcastle, the team seems to be:

Given

Ramage Boumsong Taylor Babayaro

Bowyer    Faye    N'Zogbia Luque

            Shearer Owen

I don't know about the bench though.

Team news;

LIVERPOOL: Reina, Finnan, Riise, Hyypia, Carragher, Gerrard, Alonso, Kewell, Garcia, Crouch, Morientes.

SUBS: Carson, Cisse, Warnock, Pongolle, Josemi.

NEWCASTLE UNITED: Shay Given, Peter Ramage, Jean Alain Boumsong, Steven Taylor, Celestine Babayaro, Lee Bowyer, Charles N'Zogbia, Amady Faye, Albert Luque, Alan Shearer, Michael Owen
Subs: Steve Harper, Titus Bramble, Nobby Solano, Shola Ameobi, Robbie Elliott

So,  in summary.

Zogbia,  Luque, Taylor and Babayaro start.  Bramble, Nobby, Elliot and Shola dropped.  Bowyer gets a start.  Emre and Carr not fit enough yet.  Hamann misses out for 'Pool.

Really pleased to see Charles,  Luque and Taylor starting.

I actually like the look of that side. Bowyer will offer a bit more steel out on the right up against Riise who'll attack a lot from full-back, and it'll keep Nobby fresh for Wednesday.

Yeah,  not sure about the balance there.  Shola and Nobby out,  but Bowyer,  N'Zogbia and Luque starting?

I guess we'll go  Luque - N'Zogbia - Faye - Bowyer

Also,  we have to remember we've got 4 games in 8 days.  Maybe Souness feels it will be better for a fresh Solano to be playing against Charlton and Spurs,  whereas Bowyer is more fitted to getting in at Liverpool.

Ah **** it.

COME ON NEWCASTLE.

Probably does prefer the idea of the aggressive Bowyer away rather than Solano, can see where he is comming from not wanting to play 2 creative wide players away, Bobby used to do the same thing.

Surely it'll be Faye's job to sit back and cover the defense though, regardless of the formation.  But I can definetly see Solano coming on the 2nd half, be shocked if he didn't.

Sadly we are lumbered with a quite shitty defence (it was only a matter of time before they conceded listening to it- I switched off. i had only listened to a couple of seconds and that was bad enough !) and no Parker.

This is embarrasing.

Total white wash so far.

Ref aint helping matters, having about 5 half fit players on the pitch cant be doing us any good.

I'd have rather stook with the settled team that has played the last few games.

Poor selection decisions by Souness.

Chatroom not working for me so posting here, defence is in shambles, boumsong is constantly out of position, We keep ending up in panic situations where it just becomes a ball scramble in defence. shearer's doing alright up-front, making his aerial presence felt.

It might as well be 4-0 to me.

We've just lost Taylor for probably most of the season due to poor decision making from Souness.

And to top it, he's probably going to have that shoulder injury over and over again throughout his career.

So everytime his shoulder buckles, we can remember the day's that this thick Scouse bastid was in charge of our club, and led it to ruin.

The club employs physios and a medical team whose expertise decide who is fit and who isn't.  Managers make decisions on the fitness of players based on the assessments of this team.  They must be held responsible for players being rushed back if they tell the manager that they are fit enough.

But then its all to easy to lay all the blame on Souness..

Taylor's shoulder is worrying me. But yeah we hardly have any time of possession in the midfield, probably due to no parker. The ball keeps ping-ponging from defence to attack.  Blah just saw the second goal, horrible keeping by Given this time.

We've been absolutely rubbish in the first half - I can't think of anything positive to say. It could and should be much more and we are probably lucky it's only 2-0 - they've just missed an open goal as I type! With Taylor missing now for most of the season and Boumsong having yet another shocker (he's been all over the place) and Bramble getting cheered on by the Scousers! we are going to need to get a centre half, at least on loan in the transfer window. The second half can only get better, definitely not any worse. blueupset.gif

The gulf in managerial class between Benitez and Souness is so large, it may actually be infinite.

The only, and I mean, ONLY, positive I take from the first 45 mins is that the Scousers haven't exactly put on the charm offensive to Owen, have they?

Owen's body language is poor, though.  He does seem genuinely disappointed by the reaction.

Hate to be contrary but Shearer recently got away with grabbing an Arsenal player by the neck, on a side note, do you think there is bad blood between these teams ? Remeber Ambrose/Kewell flare up for a seemingly innocuous incident a while back, Rafa's comments about Newcastle weren't flattering

Gerrard raised hands to Shearer and then little head butt to Bowyer.

Totally shocking refereeing and needs to be an FA investigation.

Bowyer is a marked man.

In the end - the second half has been a better display.
I'm not a Souness hater - but he must take some blame for the midfield starting line up. Zoggs in the midle was sure to be over run by Gerrad and Alonso.Boums poor display hasn't helped either.
Luque has shown some promise, Bowyer before that silly decision was one of our better players. Owen has had a stinker.

Seamus Given is perhaps the only reason Graeme Souness still has a job.  He's turned many a day where we could have lost 5-0 or more into mere 1-0 or 2-0 defeats...and thus saving a little face for the thick Scot in the process.

I hope he signs a new deal...but I'll wish him well if he decides he wants to abandon this rudderless ship.
