Title: Crouchie..
Post by: Ridzuan on December 24, 2005, 02:24:35 AM
Anyone can remember if he has a good record of scoring against us during his time as a southampton player?

I'm sure he scored last time.

I'll be deverstated if he does this time, the amount of abuse i give him.

He gave us a scare at the end of the 2001-02 season, by scoring an equaliser for Villa when we needed the points to qualify for the Champs League.

FFS, he is shit! He scored a freak goal against whoever it was. Then got another, and i think it was him that put two past the costa rican champions ffs, 2 goals, and everyones going on as if he's some super striker. I'll eat my words if he scores against us, but i don't think he will.

Haha, he can barely head the ball, he'd only cause problems to players like Carr :p Anyone can cause us problems, it just depends when, that Mackem Elliot caused a few. Crouch against Bramble(minus steam train tackles, and horrific mistakes) or Boumsong = Highly ineffective IMO.

Did you not see the last game he played against us??

crouch is an awful player and the media make him out to be world class, because he couldn't score for 20 games  blueconfused.gif but what i want to know is why do teams look world class against us? i know we beat west brom 3-0 but at points in that match we made earnshaw look like pele and given has to make a top class save each match!

He's not 'awful'. He's not exactly outstanding at anything, but he fits very well in the side. He always causes problems for defenders. I wouldn't put money on him scoring on Monday (I wouldn't even put money on him playing), but if he does play, he'll give your centre backs a hell of a time.

He gets a lot of unfair stick because of his height and because he cost 7m, check his record out for Southampton last season. He's a good player and nowhere near as bad as what the media make out. He will not score 20 goals a season, but I bet he scores over 10 and contributes to at least another 10 goals. I'd have him in wor squad, I wouldn't pay 7m like but then, we paid 8m for Boumsong, and some say at 16m, we overpaid for Owen, would we swap him now?

Crouch seems to be another Heskey, yet the likes of Smith are rated on here and others like Ameobi even, or Robbie Keane.

If he cost 3m, people would be saying he's a good signing, wy didn't we buy him as a squad player. I rate Crouch, he's not the best in the air, but he's got good technique, he causes the opposition to think and he has other attributes. He can score, 14 in 21 games or something for Southampton prove that.

Very brave of Rafa to sign him in my opinion and good luck to the lad, except against us.

He's a half-season wonder.

i dare people to watch him play with an open mind, forget the immature stuff about him being tall, nobody gets at emre for being small or rooney for being a fat bastard. his touvh when played into his feet or chest is brilliant, he is good at winnig knockdowns for other players and when given space is good at,  heading at goal. he brings loads to the team he plays in, laying the ball of for on-rushing midfielders or giving an outlet when under pressure.

the press gave him loads of stick, whoever siad they rate him is talking bollocks. without meaning to compare, how many has shearer scored this year? or defoe, crespo etc... the reasonably knowledgable pundits aroud and football brains can see how good he is. the tabloids writers who hate anyone who doesnt play in london or for the mancs slag him off because he is an easy an noticeable target

He's what, 25? And it taken him this long to get 'good'?

I don't rate him at all, as ohmelads says he's a half season wonder who gets hyped up becasue he's at Liverpool. They say he causes problems for the defence, any 6'7 bloke would just run around!

It's a Given own goal according to Sky. No Jynx involved.

He was bound to pose our defence problems but people were so adamant he was too sh*t to do it and wrote him off, oh well 1 goal and should have had an assist but hey he is not really causing us too much to worry about!

That was not an own goal. If that was an O.G, then every time a keeper gets his hands to the ball or there's the merest deflection it's an O.G. Frank Lampard & Joe Cole have, in that case, never scored a goal in their lives.

So the fact that crouch rose, beat the defence and put the ball toward the direction of the goal and Given seemed to barely get a touch anyway before it went in doesnt really count for much?

Don't like the own goal against keepers if the shot is already on target

The long streak of paralysed should have been sent off for the 'Bowyer' incident.
That he wasn't reflects on referee Halsley who was shocking all afternoon.
No complaints about the result though!

Pretty good performance today from him. Claimed Givens own goal and pushed over Bowyer. Winner.

Yes!

No, we need Owen because we need a goalscorer but we also need someone who can do other things, like Crouch today!

It was nailed on he would cause us problems one way or another but people were writing him off and this thread needed to be bumped!

We can be thankful to Crouch that the score stayed at 2-0 today. Liverpool could and should have murdered us the way we were playing.
