Your Shout: Fans' Reaction To 4-2 Win
Over West Ham
|
I can't quite work out how Alan Pardew (and a few others) can claim
West Ham should have got something from this game. Although they did
play some very attractive football, the net result (no pun intended)
of this was a fortunate, for them, own goal and an even more fortunate
penalty, given the way in which it was conceded. However Newcastle
scored four perfectly good goals and so achieved the requirements
to win a game of football. So where's the luck in that? -
Terry, Low Fell
Where would we be without Michael Owen? I can't believe I saw Owen
score a HAT-TRICK for Newcastle. We played much better against Arsenal
but we created more chances against the Hammers which is encouraging
as we have struggled to create chances for a while now. I know they
are both different type of players but we have two Alan Shearer's
in the side now, both as deadly as each other. Howay the lads! -
Lee Sargeson
Great result and a gritty performance from the team, without a doubt
they have stopped taking notice of the manager and started playing
their way, but it's about time Graeme (it's never my fault) Souness
realised that Ameobi is never going to hack it, he says he's found
his best position now on the left wing, when in fact it's really left/right-back
(left right back off the pitch). - Azkban
It seems whenever Souness is under pressure by fans and the media,
Newcastle do something so lets keep Souey under pressure, he can cope,
he's a tough old fox is Souness. It's good for the team to be on edge,
as we have seen with 2 wins out of 2 games. Good luck Toon on Boxing
Day. - Martin P
I went to the match with my Dad who has recently broken his leg, the
ground staff were very helpful in finding us suitable seats so he
wasn't stuck in the middle of a row. We sat behind the goal and had
a hard job seeing the action at the other end - but had no trouble
celebrating Owen's first goal but I think most of the away fans were
in shock initially.
What followed wasn't exactly silky football and the Hammers did look
like they would get back in it. There was nothing Nobby could have
done about the own goal. The second half allowed us to see Big Al
smash one past the Man Utd reject followed by a classic backwards
run right in front of us! It was great to see Owen get his third past
the hapless keeper, and that was the cue for much singing and dancing
in the crowd - including my dad! All in all a top day out, come on
Newcastle! - Craig Coulson
Great Result once again, but does anyone know exactly why Luque isn't
playing? Surely he's fit, he's been back around 3 weeks now hasn't
he? Just wondering if he might have had an argument with Souness?
- Doddsy
Nice win away at Upton Park. When you score 4 goals away from home,
there shouldn't be anything to complain about... well there is. The
difference between winning or loosing at Upton Park, wasn't as big
as the scoreline shows. The only reason we won was due to Owen's class.
Had he still been injured, we would have walked away with no points.
The main reason for this, is the team's poor passing. The back-four
play with no calm, they hoof the ball away way too often. Players
in midfield like Faye & Ameobi, don't have short passing abilities
as well.
GS needs to improve that side of our game very fast, if we're to climb
up the table. We need to hold possession, way longer than we do, to
take off the pressure from our opponents. And what's happening with
Luque??? Well enough negative speak. Back to the positives: Mickey's
1st hat-trick, Shearer showing great form and is only 1 goal behind
Milburn now. Scotty Parker, well do I need to comment further. Last
but not least Boumsong is looking better and better now, despite the
personal issues. Howay the lads, let's beat some Scousers now!
- Thomas Jensen
I enjoyed the game despite the result. West ham played very well but
were trying to dribble the ball into the Newcastle goal. Owen and
Shearer were fantastic and they were the difference between the teams.
Both side can be proud of their performance. - Amad Purtow
(West Ham fan)
First, I was very happy because we won another away game and got 3
points. But part of me worries about our tactics. Looks like we need
Owen to be on the pitch at all times if we want to win games. Owen
can't play every week or score goals every game though. That's why
we should improve our passing game if want to be a top 4 or 6 side.
I hope for the next game we will see Luque replace Ameobi too. -
Ginkoh
Another great battling display from the Toon and what about Scott
Parker again bossing the midfield, and Michael Owen pure genius -
great all-round display and well taken goals from the England number
1. Alan Shearer had another good game getting another goal to add
to his tally. Two away now from being the best player the Toon have
ever had. - Richard Jeremiah
another good looking result for us but in truth we did better against
arsenal last week. never the less, a good win all the same. i am confused
as to why we are playing the average at best Ameobi on the left instead
of 10 million quids worth of Luque. why pay all the dosh and then
leave him to simply rot away and get disgruntled? i for one really
think that once Luque is in the team and after a few runs in the team
we will all see his worth- Owen himself said that when he played against
him in La Liga the he was very good and a mega threat to any team.
lets use him. - Craig
I am really delighted with the way things are going at the moment
with these wins. I will always be behind the coach no matter what
like I have always done in the past. So we shall be without Parker
on boxing day? I guess that was a way of asking for a rest. He really
needed it. Lets see how far we shall go without him. One thing I'm
sure about is we shall have most of the lads fit and back in contention
so no need to worry about him. We do have Faye. - Ryan
Well in my last e-mail to Newcastle-Online I asked whether we would
show the same level of commitment we did against Arsenal, against
West Ham. We did and I'm delighted. Now can we do it away to Liverpool?
Fingers crossed. - Paul Jones
I had the choice of going to West Ham or Liverpool, I was going to
choose Liverpool but I was greedy and went for West Ham as I couldn't
bare listening to it on radio knowing I could have been there. I'm
glad I did as I witnessed Wor Michael's first Toon hat-trick, but
I now fear I'll miss out on Shearer's record breaking goal at Anfield,
such is my luck. So I hope he doesn't break it against Liverpool as
I want to be there when it happens, sorry Al.
Anyway, I thought we were brilliant from start to finish. Owen was
simply astonishing and Parker once again gave his all for the Toon
badge. In defence Boumsong was brilliant as well so I'm well chuffed
for the lads and Souness as I still have hope he can turn things round.
Big shout to the Toon Army as well, everyone was in great voice.
- Tim Pattinson, Westerhope
Owen underlined once again just how important he is to the cause with
his treble so I hope he comes out of the hectic festive period unscathed
as it would be tragic to lose him for a length of time. I guess to
be safe we have to buy in the Jan window. Maybe two strikers so we
can rest Shearer every other game too. Good win at Upton, we look
like coming into some form just as our injuries start to heal up.
Where ever you sit with Souness, he is right, we do need a class players
playing every week to climb the table. Happy Xmas Mags the world over.
- Ian
As a Hammer I'm gutted we lost the game, despite dominating but from
a neutral point of view, Shearer was awesome for your team and it
has been a pleasure of mine to see him grace Upton Park. I'm only
17 and have only seen Shearer on TV. I can now say I saw him live.
Owen is awesome too but I've seen him for England. Good luck Geordies
for the season. - Mark Davidson
Souey's boys win again. We can still do wonderful things with the
coach in charge. He just needs some luck and he got it. Howay the
lads. - Chuck
I'm so happy for Mickey Owen with his goals. He's Newcastle's top
goalscorer now isn't he? He should get 20 this season if he keeps
fit and out of trouble from the refs. - GG
I'm pissed as a fart but who cares. Newcastle we love you. Owen you're
a star. Shearer, thank you. Souey, you're alright as well. 4-2 Woo
hoooooo. Happy days... - Michael G
