Readers Letter: The Signs
|
Newcastle-Online.com reader 'Dev', an exiled Geordie living and
working in Holland, writes in stressing that the the powers that be,
need to listen to fans and consider who we would like as our next
manager, among other things.
Some people say that they can see energy around other living things,
including other people. They also say that coincidences are supposed
to be taken note of... to be acted upon. That things happen for a
reason. I've heard people say they have felt it and have myself even
experienced many times, walking into a room and instantly picking
up the atmosphere.
'Atmosphere' is just the name we human's gave to it, most of us today
just take the word for granted without giving a second thought to
what it actually is. We do the same with many other things in life.
I once talked to an old Greek guy in Cyprus who told me people wear
black at a funeral, not just as a mark of respect, but because black
absorbs energy... the energy of the deceased. If that's true I've
never heard of it... but even if it isn't true... I'd have never thought
of it. I just take for granted that we have always worn black when
at a funeral out of respect.
Moving on...
If I had to put in order the most important things in my life I would
have to say...
My Mother
Newcastle United
My Mrs
My Job
My House
My Vespa (don't judge me for that... it's a beast!)
Something strange is happening to the club that I've been in love
with all my life. I've been backwards and forwards in my mind over
and over again, sometimes even disagreeing with my own opinions...
trying to figure out just what is going wrong.
How can a club with such amazing support and wealth... be languishing
mid-table for the 2nd season running with non other than Graeme Souness
in charge?
I've said many times to people... I was almost sick when I received
a text message off my mate back home in the Toon, saying we had Souness
on board. But I'm realistic enough to know that we had no alternative
but to give him a chance. Some of us did, most of us never did but
either way... if the atmosphere was bad when Sir Bobby supposedly
'lost the dressing room', it wasn't really going to ever improve by
sacking him and replacing him with 'Souey'.
In my mind, that's like casually walking up to someone hanging off
a 200ft high bridge screaming for help... and standing on their hands.
Are we supposed to just believe that we have almost our full team
out injured and this is all down to lady luck? Who the fuck by the
way... is lady bastard luck?
I'd rather look at the signs. The only players showing genuine hunger
to play for us are either the local boys... or the England hopefuls.
If things don't improve within weeks... the only way we will get hungry
players is from our youth team. Our club has set a standard for itself
by paying ridiculous wages to players who simply don't look hungry
enough.
Things happen for a reason... Parker, Owen and the Geordie boys are
the only thing stopping us from being relegated. Sure we have great
players... but where are they? Why do they have no end product? I'm
tired of watching my team play like a pub team, tired of having people
take the piss because I support Newcastle.
The next manager we get, has to be the fans choice, we've witnessed
the evidence first-hand. You can have all the good players you want...
but if we are presented with anyone in the mould of Steve Bruce or
David O'Leary, average managers at best... then the bad atmosphere
will get worse. And I dread to think what 'worse' means.
This sorry episode is making my life miserable, making me moody with
my mrs, making me short tempered... and it's not just me... there
are hundreds of thousands of us out here being mentally tortured.
Freddie Sheppard, Sort this out once and for all.
The fans' choice... Ottmar Hitzfeld, Paul Le Guen, Martin O'Neill.
All 3 are available.
