Your Shout: Toon Fans' Reaction To 1-0
Mansfield Win
|
Spurs lost, Man Utd drew, Chelsea only won 2-1, the smoggies drew,
Everton drew, sack them all! WE WON FFS! So what if we didn't manage
more than one goal or played good. WE WON DIDN'T WE? They'd moan if
we won the cup! - Toon Fan
Newcastle played rubbish, Mansfield were the better team and deserved
to win. The main thing is that we won though and we are in the 4th
Round, Souness lives another day. Great moment for Shearer as well!
- Corrie Fisher
Souness should accept that if Shearer hadn't of scored his 200th goal
which brought the win, the Mansfield Town game would have been his
last match for him. A least we won and saw Big Al celebrate. I cannot
wait to see Shearer break the record too. - Ginkho
Where would we be without Shearer, Souness would certainly not be
here had Big Al not chalked up goal number 200, more is the pity.
Anyway, at least we're into the next round and of course, all the
plaudits should go to the captain who saved our bacon once again.
How many times now? It's sad that we have to rely on him at his age
but that's what happens when you get rid of players like Robert, Bellamy
and Kluivert, 3 attacking players Mr Souness. Souness out! -
Paul
Glad I never went now, sounded awful on the radio. Gutted to miss
out Shearer's goal though but I'm sure I'll see plenty more as he's
the only one capable of scoring. - Peter Simpson
Sack Souness and hire Sir Bobby. Sack Freddy and win some trophies.
- John
What a disgrace of a man Souness is. Please go. - Dave Balmer
Given and Shearer, without those 2 quality players Mansfield would
have at least taken you back for a replay or won the game. -
Steve Foster
We played pitifully again but managed the result, that's what counts.
It was great to see Sir Alan Shearer get his 200th! Luque is slowly
but surely finding his feet but lets hope he finds himself among the
goals. I can't understand why Souness started Carr over Ramage but
who knows what that man thinks! - Liam Hutcheson
Well another dismal performance by the club, Mansfield were all over
us I couldn't believe my ears listening to game on the net. All credit
to Mansfield they weren't overawed by us and the way we are playing
at the moment we would have a hard time beating the local kindergarten
team, again you have to question Souness and his tactics to play Solano
on the left and Zoggs in the centre. Did he really think this would
confuse Mansfield or what? The only bright thing to come out of that
game was Big Al getting his 200th goal, the sooner we get another
manager the better. - Garth Hope
Well that was fun... not! How much longer are we going to be served
this sterile, unimaginative football that Souness insists on playing?
Nobby on the left, what's that all about? Zoggy in midfield? A league
two manager showed him up tactically, what does that tell you Freddy?
- Mark
Congratulations Geordies and Alan Shearer, from a Mansfield fan. -
Joe
The mighty Stags give your boys one hell of a match and I'm very proud
of my team, we were solid and an outsider watching on wouldn't have
guessed which side was the Premiership team. I was disappointed with
Newcastle as I watch these players on Sky and you have a good team,
but they didn't turn up. Shearer did and I've always been a fan of
his and I clapped his goal, quite a lot of Stags did in actual fact.
It's not every day you get to see a great player like him. There aren't
many in our league.... Good luck to Newcastle, I hope they win the
cup. Your goalscorer deserves it. - Mansfield Fan
What a goal, what a man, what a legend. Take a bow Mr Shearer. Spine
tingling stuff. Same old Shearer, always scoring. - Mike
I'd like to thank Newcastle fans for making our trip a memorable one,
we shared some drinks with you guys afterwards (can't remember the
bar, but the drinks were cheap :)) and I have to say, everything they
say about Geordies is true from my experience. I was a bit concerned
walking up to the ground with so many fans in place (you don't get
such numbers in our division) but there was no need. I never experienced
any trouble whatsoever and you guys are a credit to your fantastic
club. I'll be back some day as a neutral but I'll be cheering on Newcastle
with you guys. Toon for the Cup :) - Robert Jennings
Phew is all I have to say really. Imagine going to their place and
getting turned over? Would we ever live it down? Not likely, the Beeb
would certainly reel it out every year along with (I can't bring myself
to repeat you know what...)! Lets not kid ourselves, we could be speaking
about this so easily in weeks to come. We were very fortunate to win
this game. They had more shots, more possession and played the much
better football. I know the cup is a leveler but we still had some
40m worth of talent out there. We have been playing like this for
months now. I'm not going to pick on Souness because I don't need
to but I do hope he watches the game and forces the players to because
they were embarrassed by a team 3 divisions below them. I couldn't
bear to see our name linked with a cup shock. That would be like the
roof caving in. Oh and before I finish, just like to say a big congratulations
to Alan Shearer. If anyone deserves Jackie's record, it's him. Best
player I've seen at SJP in my lifetime and my dad tells me he's the
best he's seen too and he's seen Jackie and all the other greats.
- Tom
They should put two extra '9' numbers on Shearer's shirt because once
more he has rescued Newcastle United. I actually had a feeling the
game would be a tight affair and that he would score a later winner.
He has scored some important goals in his time here, but have any
kept a manager in a job? The drinks are on Souness! - Dennis

May I remind fans who booed at half-time that these type of results
are common in the Fa cup. We can't "thrash" every team or
play "football" every game. Yeah we haven't been playing
well of late but we won and results are all that matter in this sport.
There are no easy games and managers and pundits don't come out with
these cliches for the fun of it, it's true. How else would you explain
Mansfield's performance and narrow defeat. It's too easy to say players
are taking things easy because of the drop in quality they are up
against or that the manager made the wrong decision or picked the
wrong team. Throughout history the cup has thrown up some strange
results. Give the team and manager a break and they might start "thrashing"
teams and playing "football". - Harry, exiled in
