Your Shout: Toon Fans' Reaction To 2-0
Liverpool Defeat
|
The liverpool match brought memories of the 4-0 hammering in the Cup
over twenty years ago when Keegan decided enough is enough. PLEASE
SOUNESS TAKE A LEAF OUT HIS BOOK AND QUIT NOW, YOU HAVEN'T THE KNOW-HOW
TO BEAT THESE MANAGERS AT FOOTBALL. - Wal Mallin
Replace Souness, but only if we can get Stuart Pearce. - Kev
Well what can you say about our game against Liverpool, except it
was crap! In my opinion Souness has to go now, before the damage gets
worse, what was he thinking playing 4 players out of position it just
begs belief that someone could make such a tactical blunder. I have
to say Lee Bowyer didn't deserve red, yellow yes, but then again he
didn't deserve to be on the pitch anyway, he was like a headless chicken
running around as was Boumsong and Babayaro. Shay Given was man of
the match and should look for pastures new, he deserves better. Souness
do us all a favour, please retire. - Garth Hope
I was born a proud Geordie. However having paid the £7 to watch the
pathetic performance of my team, once again I feel it necessary to
join the many calling for the departure of Souness. Despite losing
a key player like Parker he made a terrible mistake to play "Baba-horrar"
who has lost any Chelsea skills he might of once had, Taylor without
giving him a run in in reserves, our Spanish 9 million flop who should
have been given a three months reserve trial before daring to put
back into our main team (clearly he needs to be sent packing and try
and to recover the whapping overpriced fee we paid) then there is
the likes of Amdy Flop who loses possession more times than I have
hot dinners.
Let Pompey have him back and get someone who knows what midfield is
all about. I feel sorry for Boumsong for his personal troubles however
we grossly overpaid on his services - he makes me shiver in fear when
he gets possession and is clearly not a happy man. At the moment our
only good players worth keeping are Given, Owen, Shearer, Emre, Solano
(on his good days), Parker and N'Zogbia.
Okay - I know that leaves a lot of positions to fill and we have not
got the spending power - however if we do not start by changing our
manager soon I predict we will end the season on the verge of relegation
and find it impossible to attract any fresh talent to come to our
club. I remember the good times when we won the Inter City Fairs Cup
- Pop Robson, Keith Dyson, Alan Foggon and Super Mac. In those days
we were a team playing with passion. Please please bring those happy
days back. Wishing us all a Happy 2006. - Stuart Niman
The game was more then bad for us. First player vs. player analysis
to me shows that we were completely outplayed. At the start of the
game we made some good runs, had them teaming up on our players. After
the first goal though the energy levels seemed to go down. As for
where we lost the game I would say it was Souness' tactics. He didn't
seem to know what to do. Subbing N'Zogbia I thought was the biggest
mistake he made. Also not having Parker in the side hurt us as well.
One thing I didn't agree on from the refs was not awarding Crouch
the red. How is it that he starts the fight and ends up with only
a yellow? One thing I did like though is that Bowyer may have played
the last game as a Magpie. Hopefully now the management will get rid
of him. If Souness continues the was he has so far this season he
also needs to join Bowyer. The man of the match for us in this game
has to be Given. Hopefully the Magpies will bounce back and hopefully
the injury woes will stop for us as well. - Max
A very lackluster performance by the team. extremely poor service
into the strikers who were giving nothing to feed off. Luque and Bowyer
both contributed very little to the game both showing no commitment
to the team and traveling support. The only positive to be taken from
the game was the inspirational performance of Shay Given. The sooner
he signs that new contract the better, for every Toon fans' sake!
- Doc
2 Wins then 5 changes, 1 injured soldier now knackered when he should
not have played in the first place and 1 sending off justified or
not. Fantastic tactics by a major tactician? Where Next? -
Colin
For so long during the Keegan era we had a team that could push the
ball around the midfield and also put the ball into the net, but had
a seriously suspect back line. Lots of goals at both ends. Earlier
in the season, during the absence of Michael Owen, we saw what it
was like to have a team with a good midfield - Emre and Parker - a
poor defence and an off form front line. Result - a few flashes here
and there, but no consistency, very few goals for us, potential for
lots of goals against. In the Liverpool match we saw the other permutation.
A (very) poor defence, a poor midfield and a quality front line who
just didn't get a decent ball all afternoon.
The result was always going to be lots for them, not many for us.
Again we have to thank Given for keeping the score reasonable. What
a bloke. I can only imagine that Souness took one look at Liverpool's
form and decided to skip this one and save Carr and Emre for next
week. It was always going to be a tough one.
The refereeing pantomime doesn't deserve to be mentioned at all, apart
from to say that if ever there was justification for real time video
evidence to be available to match officials - that was it. The good
news out of all of this? No matter what your allegiance you have to
admit that Crouch can play. His first and second touches were superb.
Lets hope he stays fit for the World Cup. May have to work on his
temper though.
Did Michael Owen deserve to get booed by the crowd? Obviously this
says more about the quality of the crowd than the quality of the player.
Maybe Owen will think twice about considering a move back to Scouseville.
- Rob Brown
I have been a Newcastle Supporter since 1943 in Albert Stubbins days.
Oh for another "Frank Brennan". Woodgate apart; the defence has been
the weak link over the past 10 to 15 years. There is no backbone in
Newcastle's defence. Graham Souness' only good buy was Michael Owen.
We will have to sort the defence out. Jean-Alain Boumsong & Celestine
Babayaro, do not mark or close down their opponents. They would not
get in a Hartlepool United team. I'm sorry that Jean-Alain has personal
problems, he has had the odd game when he looked reasonable, but overall
he's not good enough.
Amdy Faye is tryer but not good enough; I know Scott Parker is injured
but I am afraid that Amdy Faye is no replacement for him. Since Bernard
who played left side of defence, no replacement has been found. Elliot
has been a very good left back, although slow now, better than Celestine
Babayaro. Against Liverpool star man by far was Given, the score would
at least trebled. Stephen Taylor should of not been risked. Red cards
should of went to more than Boyer, Gerrard & Crouch for raising their
hands. Crouch who only got a yellow card. Please do something about
our defence, when the January transfer window opens up. -
Harry Lawson
I went to Anfield to support my team Newcastle United but not among
my own Toon fellas, instead I was amongst my mates who are Liverpool
fans. I was sitting very near to the Kop end. I was impressed by their
chanting for their own players but wasn't for the booing and jeering
of our players. During the Bowyer incident they sang "ure supposed
to be in jail" I was somewhat okay with this as the recent turnout
of events by Bowyer disappoints me, not an ambassador of this club
at all. But when they started "fuck off shearer" I was ready to stand
up and shot "shut up you nob Kop" that's the best I can do.
And bramble does not deserve that sarcastic clapping and chanting
from them. All that is not what worries me most, but what does is
our team's inability to put up a fight. This is the element that we've
been lacking, forget about the Arsenal match they're not on top form
by the way. What saddens me and upsets me and which also led me to
be so silent towards my Liverpool mates was that my team wasn't able
to play in the opponents half at all. We lacked creativity imagination
and finally determination in some players. Bowyer was all over the
place and he makes these silly runs that don't work.
Amady Faye was determined but not good enough he wasn't jockeying
well, he went to ground uselessly and after his yellow card his game
was out of the window. I know Souness wants to do his best but at
half time I knew if I was the gaffer I would've taken off Bowyer for
Shola and place him just behind the two strikers to link up play between
defence and the forwards, as he has proven able to do so far. He's
a passer and keeps possession of the ball. Solano on the right was
a good choice. No comment on Luque, as Souness still wants us to wait
for his best I guess. But I truly think Shola could have solved the
problem on Saturday. - Paul Smith
After having to wait 8 hours to watch the game on a delayed feed we
were rubbish again, why make 5 changes to a team that has won the
last two games? Ok they where not our first 11 but at least they gave
120 percent, January we need two new strikers and Ameobi out.
- Nigel
That was one of the most one sided refereeing performances I have
seen, how was Steven Gerrard still on the pitch after his involvement
in the scuffle with Shearer & Bowyer? Surely that was classed as violent
conduct. As a Newcastle season ticket holder, I have seen lots of
bad referees, but that must rank as one of the top ten most blatant,
one sided performances by a referee I've seen. - Dave Robinson
I think Shay as always saved us from further humiliation. No doubt
Liverpool had better players, but to me, failure to put a body on
Crouch all the time cost us the game. He's got a good lay off for
a big man and aerially he is superb. We should have either Boumsong
or Bramble do a Carvalho on him. If that means wrestling with him
so be it. Crouch is Liverpool's point person, no wonder Benitez didn't
want Owen. Overall I am satisfied though, it wasn't one of the games
I expected us to win. - Mustapha
I'm not one to go manager bashing, but Souness surely must go even
when we win it's never as comfortable as it seams. I have not seen
a faultless comfortable display from our defence and we look as efficient
as a clapped out Ford Capri. How can a man make 5 changes to a winning
team is beyond me let alone bringing back injured players. He's had
one and a half years to sort out a shoddy defence and FAILED. He's
got to go. - Ben Nigam
I had to watch this one on TV - and basically the result was flattering
for us. One thing that is beginning to get on my nerves is this belief
that we have the best supporters in the world. To be honest, Newcastle
fans are getting to be more of an embarrassment than anything else.
Apart from one rendition of the Blaydon Races, all I could hear was
"Feed the Scousers" and "You've got our stereos" - how in God's name
is that supporting the lads? Every now and again might be funny and
work, but non-stop, all it does is wind up the opposition and get
them playing even better. Newcastle fans were awful yesterday - made
me embarrassed to be a Geordie. - Jezza
I thought we would loss this one for sure. Our team has enough good
players to fight with Liverpool but we have a poor manager to bring
the best out of each good player in the right way. I don't understand
why our club still lets Souness be the manager he should be fired
soon. - Kenny
Liverpool are getting better and better, becoming a major force, they
are better than Chelsea now considering they haven't spent as much.
We must not forget that they are the European Champions and they were
robbed for the World Championship by some idiots. The middle of Liverpool's
team is phenomenal and devastating. So lets not fool ourselves, we
are no match for Liverpool as we proved. - Vishal
Why the hell wasn't Gerrard sent of? He pushed Shearer in the back
(yellow card) when he was trying to calm the situation and had his
hands on Bowyer's throat (straight red card). - Steven Bainbridge
The result went the way I thought it would. Yes Souness has brought
in great players, but he and his coaching team are tactically inept.
Against lesser teams our better players can dominate but not because
of the management behind the team. Against classy teams like Chelsea
or Liverpool we are just totally outclassed. Paul Jewel has his team
playing football, Souness hopes his team will. Get rid of him now.
