Your Shout: Toon Fans' Reaction To 1-0
Fulham Loss
|
Not good enough. Souness isn't to blame, he was never good enough
for the job, Freddy has to be the one held responsible for appointing
him. £50 million of investment put a stop to calls for Freddy's head
early in the season, but it took these calls to get that investment
in the first place. Freddy out! - Martin
How much more shit are we going to have to watch and listen to before
Souness gets the chop, it is beyond a joke now, he is doing something
wrong in training that's why all the players are getting injured and
he obviously has the tactical skills of a baby, the players stepped
onto the pitch at Fulham and had no clue what do do even before we
kicked-off!, Plus, why are people having a go at Luque? Do they want
to drive our best players away, in Luque we have a great international
player yet because of Souness' no sense tactics we hoof the ball up
to a player that doesn't even know the meaning of the word long ball.
Why did Souness buy players like Luque? - Dodds
Anyone else feeling totally numb at the moment? With every defeat
I find the amount I care becomes less and less, at the minute - and
in regards to this season - I can see no light at the end of the tunnel
for NUFC. Until there is a serious overhaul of the management set-up
and until Alan Shearer moves on we cannot progress the way we want
to. It's time for a new era at St. James' Park, Shepherd has to get
someone in who can get the fans on side with a good attitude and a
good style of football. With the players we have on our books it is
ridiculous to be even considering relegation, but that's where we
find ourselves. Thanks Graeme, et all. - Richard
I think we are playing with the wrong formation and attitude. We all
know we are going to concede a goal no matter what we do and even
though Given is good, he can't stop them! Our defence is too week!
So how about we go back to the good old days where we were ready to
concede 3 goals but we would score 4! That's how we have to play!
- Toon Fan
Saturday was my first match in London at which I didn't had to sit
quietly on my hands in the home stand, so I loved almost every minute
of it. This was in spite both teams' inability to string three passes
together going forward. Two thoughts: Luque looked like he might have
the skills, but lacked confidence; it was a shame to boo him. Chopra
and O'Brien could have won us the game; why bother having a youth
policy, when Souness doesn't believe in giving young players a chance?
When he is forced to, he undermines their confidence - "We'll never
win anything with a team of Milner's" could have condemned us to loosing
the promising Milner to Villa. But, despite the loss, and despite
the way the game was played, I had a fantastic time and sang loud
and long. Mostly. - Ben Greenacre
In my opinion, I think it has gone beyond pear shaped, we are now
near crisis point, against Fulham we looked at times like a ship without
a rudder, I have to say, the great man is now spent, he has giving
his all, and some, we have to get a striker in now after all that's
what scouts are for, aren't they? - Magpie Marky
This game sums up the Souness era for me, passionless, little skill,
scrappy and lots of huff and puff from a team lacking direction, leadership,
confidence and a game plan to compete. Fulham were awful, yet we couldn't
get at them. We did improve in the second-half but then, anything
above the first-half performance, would be classed as an improvement,
that's how poor we were. I'm not going to call for Souness' head,
because it's obvious he has to go. Lets hope Freddy has something
up his sleeve. I won't hold my breath though. - Dean from
Byker
After the weekend's results, FS now needs to urgently consider appointing
a caretaker manager until a more longer term appointment can be made.
Based on how we are playing, 40 points is a long way off, and without
being able to score, 'maybe a bridge too far'. We could be in a relegation
battle by the end of February. - Magpie
This "tussle" had all the hallmarks of a relegation clash
and reminded me of United under Dalglish, a truly turgid display while
better than the Spurs performance, still not good enough. Souness
out. - Peter K
Poor in the first half but improved in the second. Although we had
one headed off the line we never really threatened and Fulham, who
are a bottom 8 side, deserved to win. We had no pace up front until
Souness brought Chopra and O'Brien on. Luque showed some nice touches
but did not have the impact expected of a £10m player. Maybe he's
in the wrong league or maybe he's in the wrong side because we continue
to miss out midfield with the long punt up to Shearer. Unfortunately
our midfield are not prepared to gamble by running past Shearer so
inevitably it's mopped up by the opposition defence. The focus at
Newcastle is always on the defence but someone needs to look at the
low number of chances we are creating never mind the number of goals
scored. We look like Blackburn just before Souness left. Will anyone
take him off our hands? - Wal
Well what's it going to take to get rid of Souness and his second
rate team of assistants. The stars are not likely to stay while this
disaster continues... Our second team should be good enough to complete
with the lower teams in the Premiership like Fulham but they've been
found wanting and it just seems to keep going on from one disaster
after another, if the result against the Wigan reserve team wasn't
bad then the Christmas results should have been enough, (actually
saved from it being worse as we had one game called off). Then along
came the FA Cup game and a team that every team should beat was only
beaten thanks to a Shearer goal, the axe should've fallen but the
suffering goes on.
It's not just the results but now questions must be asked about whether
structures are in place for the club to become a world force. How
can a Wigan reserve side beat us? Clean out the cupboard and bring
in a Director of Football capable of building a dynasty to match the
Liverpool's and Man Utd's of the world. Look at what Spurs are doing
they're able to recruit world-class talents and the most promising
talent which will see them served well. Sourpuss has had his time,
he can't handle personalities that fit his way of thinking - just
look at Blackburn our next opponents and the turmoil that was there
in the last days of his reign, and only our approach saved him from
the sack, he may have won a lot but he's also left a trail of disasters
behind him as well, look at the club's he's been at.
Okay, it's easy to say get rid of him but someone need to make a decision
and make wholesale changes to the management and coaching structures
now rather than in the summer as the World Cup is going to delay everything
from the appointment of a manager to recruiting of players to getting
rid of the deadwood to rehabilitating the injured and the fitness
regime to getting the players fit for a new season. We need to be
proactive rather than reactive (when it's too late). Look at Arsenal
who failed to recruit and their short comings & problems have been
exposed, Liverpool have recruited heavily and have shown huge improvement
even considering the number of games played. How could we recruit
fewer players than the number that left or were released - have we
not learnt from past seasons where injuries decimated us and the results
showed.
1-Sack Souness and his team. 2-Appoint a foreign Director of Football
- we need new ideas. 3-Appoint a new manager with the ability to handle
different personalities rather than my way or the highway approach
(a people person). 4-Hire assistants who have some experience to manage
alongside a new man rather than a job for his mates. This can't continue,
the cost of sacking may save a fortune in the long run, 3 million
is cheap compared to the lost revenue in where we will finish at the
end of the season, potential loss of sponsors or the level of money
from sponsors, or even recruitment of players. MAY THE AXE FALL SOONER
RAtHER THAN LATER! - Marz
I believe we need to put Souness out of our misery, he was and is
the wrong man for the job. I believe Glen Roeder should take over
in the interim until a suitable replacement has been found, Glen seems
to be getting more from the so called second string than Souness has
ever achieved at first team level with us, if he carries on I believe
he will succeed (in getting us into a relegation struggle). We need
a manager who can train our so called pros to pass the ball along
the ground and play football, at the moment we are playing league
2 type football (no disrespect intended) booting the ball up for Shearer
to flick on to whoever so they can pass it back to Shearer. But we
are getting found out every game by teams who couldn't even get close
to us 4 years ago. We have (royal we) destroyed our team in order
to better our defence to make us harder to beat but instead we've
just succeeded in destroying the flair football we are famous for.
The Magpies are dying. "Long live the Magpies". Help. Anyone? Freddy
are you listening? The halls? Anyone? Don't let us die like this!
- Graeme
Again a poor away performance. We lost Bramble before the game and
Carr during, that isn't going to help. Luque didn't seem to be involved
at all, Lee Clark was our engine in Parker's absence and I think he
did a good enough job. My man of the match. Come on Shepherd it's
time to sack Chop Souey! - Liam Hutcheson
That was soul destroying, yet another away game we just haven't turned
up to (the team that is). We don't deserve this. I have been to every
away game for the last 4 years and never have I felt so deflated ahead
of an away match and regulars around me feel the same too. The fans
are miserable Freddy, give us something to cheer about, sack the clueless
one... please! - Mark
Absolutely awful. The manager can whine about injuries all he likes
but it is not going to take away the fact he is an awful manager.
Souness out. - Andrew
Honestly I believe it is the right moment to sack the manager. The
team has been struggling through all the season and the new manager
would have some time to work things out before the end of the campaign.
Souness virtually destroyed in a short time all the goodness that
Sir Bobby brought to Tyneside. He's the wrong man and although we
don't know what might happen under the new manager, we really can't
be worse, both in terms of results and the way we play. It is as simple
as that in my opinion, so I'd be glad Souness will be out of there
sooner, not later. - Crazy Mag
What the fuck was that? "We're missing key players", "Injuries..."
Blah Blah fucking Blah. Is Mr Souness saying that we can only try
to win when we have everyone fit, a fucking disgrace is what that
was. I have lost all hope in NUFC and we all now know that next week,
we'll win or scrape something and everything is fine and fucking dandy.
3 shots on target in the last 4 games in the Premiership, 1 point
against Middlesborough who are tipped for relegation and were beaten
7-0. "I'll keep trying," Souness said happily, what trying to fuck
up the club even more? Now, name one time we've actually played well
apart from Manchester City and West Bromwich Albion, can you? We say
"What if..." when we're not given a penalty but when we win and we
don't deserve it we shut our traps. Too many times we've got 'back
on track' and we're marching to the promise of top 6, too many times
we use excuses. But here's one. YOU ARE THE FUCKING MANAGER, SO FUCKING
MANAGE THE TEAM. - Nick Barrett
I was at the game, better effort than the Spurs game. However tactical
suicide with 5 in midfield meant a win was very unlikely. Boumsong,
has he any idea that he is a CENTRAL defender. He was for ever going
walk about. How come Carr had to make a left back clearance at the
left corner? Watch their goal on the replays and watch Boumsong, he
was on their 18 yard box and watched the break, made a too late sprint
back, checked his run and watched the goal go in. At set pieces he
frequently did not mark a player. Because he is all over the place
the rest of the defence gets pulled about . When you don't have a
defensive bedrock the problems spread. Thought Chopra looked sharp
when he came on. - Graham Thorpe
Thanks to everyone who wrote in, keep them coming. |
