Your Shout: Fans' Reaction To 1-0 Win Over Arsenal
A selection of your views, sent into us following Newcastle's magnificent
and much needed 1-0 win over Arsenal at St. James' Park on the 10th
of December 2005.
Great to come down and see us win, it was well worth the money. However
the win hasn't changed my view of Souness. I feel it was down to the
players and fans. I don't feel confident when we are playing the smaller
teams nowadays. This is down to Souness. He has to go. - Robb
Great win but if we can't repeat it in the following games against
West Ham and Liverpool and maintain the same level of passion, commitment
and hunger for the remainder of the season, this impressive win will
mean nowt. - Paul Jones
Credit has to go to Souness. I'm not a fan and he needs to go but
he got it just right and that's one of our best games in a long time.
Can he keep it going? I wouldn't put money on it but these 3 points
can only inspire confidence and the lads have set a benchmark for
themselves now. - John Ellis
What a second half! Parker is gaining legend status alongside Shearer
as a battler who will give anything whilst in the black and white
shirt, as for some so called 'fans' criticising Shearer for his approach,
what a load of crap, football's a contact sport. - Hunter
We were poor again, I can't understand why Wenger plays certain players
when he can see that they don't perform for their club, especially
in midfield where it is most important to win the ball, we need world-class
players now, or else we will loose Henry at the end of the season
for sure. - Stelios Stylianou
I thought and guess that Shearer was very tough on the Arsenal players
and did not deserve to win the match because Arsenal had all the possession
so the Gunners were good enough to win the match and not Newcastle.
Mr Souness should not be happy about the game nor Alan Shearer and
the referee was imposing and infuriating the Arsenal players.
- Henry Arsenal fan
Shearer's a prat and how ge gets away with dangerous play I'll never
know but I thought you Geordies deserved the win as my team fell apart
to the rough stuff once again. - Mark Thompson
A tear dropped after I saw Parker fight until he couldn't take it
anymore. I hope we can keep this going to Boxing Day. - Ginkoh
Wenger: "I don't want to talk about the referee" then proceeds to
whine on about nowt else but the referee! Short memory that bloke.
- Leazesender
Brilliant result for us, we need the points now, there is no more
room for mistakes! If we play like that week in week out I am confident
we will start climbing. Is Souness changing? Luque was subbed for
the Arsenal game, is Souness telling them "you may be expensive but
don't perform and you will lose your starting place"? - Decky
I was at the match and I though that we as a team were outstanding,
we had Arsenal all over for more then half the game. I was dead impressed
with Peter Ramage and I think that he will become one of the best
defenders in the Premiership some time in the near future. -
Michael Crozier
Superb team effort. Parker was brilliant as well as Shearer, Nobby
and Ramage. But the biggest reason why we won on Saturday was that
ever single player on the pitch was working 100% and fighting for
every single ball. Shay did not have one save in the second half!
- Anders Dall
I just thought I'd comment on Parker really, he was absolutely awesome
he was everywhere. I read on another site a neutral fan who was listening
to the game on the radio and he thought Newcastle had three players
called Parker because he was everywhere. I'd just like to say well
done to the whole team and lets keep it up lads. - Matty
If we could play like this consistently, no teams would fancy playing
at SJP. Parker and Shearer simply restored our pride. Scotty - maybe
Sven doesn't treasure you, but WE DO. - Alby
So we can play huh? And with missing players too... howay Souness,
what you done with the old Graeme!!!? A tremendous win over the Gooners
and it's good to see that the manager hasn't lost the dressing room.
I though to a man the boys were brilliant and we made them look like
a bunch of amateurs. Well done all. - Martin P
We finally managed to win a game against Arsenal but I wish we beat
them with their whole squad including Reyes, Ashley Cole, Bergkamp
etc. And also I'm still worried about our defence. Elliott is too
slow. Bramble is a time bomb and could blow us up at any time. And
short passing is poor. Communications are bad among goalkeeper, defenders
and midfielders. But we won the game and that is the reality. Carry
on lads. Come on Toon Army. - Song
We were lucky really, that the game wasn't all over earlier. However
even Mr Henry has off days. The level of commitment however could
not be questioned. Considering those who were injured (door openers
in Souness' words) a battling, in your face display was the only way
we could have won. Shearer was magic as well. Is it possible that
Souness can get this level of commitment away from 52,000 Geordies?
West Ham and Liverpool away will tell us. We will either resort back
to Wigan in the League Cup and get beaten off both, or god forbid
thinking positively, we will beat West Ham and scrap a draw at Anfield.
- Peter Ripley
The 2nd half showed clearly what we have lacked all season and that's
100% effort and commitment. Obvious players to single out would be
Scott Parker, how Sven can't see it I don't know. Peter Ramage has
to be singled out bailing out Bramble on several occasions, something
Carr doesn't. Solano finally began to show some form. Ameobi did a
good job tracking back on the left. Faye is showing what Souness bought
him for despite tying his laces as Arsenal attacked for Henry's chance.
Whilst Given showed his world-class reputation the one time he was
called upon. Owen was a concern for them all the time despite the
obvious ring rust towards the end.
As for Shearer, well brilliant. He may not have the overall quality
he once had but his effort and workrate and never say die attitude
set-up Nobby and upset Arsenal's defence. And a special mention to
the much criticisized Boumsong who I thought was outstanding all-round
and looked solid and if he stays in that form the future would look
increasingly bright. Even though they lost a man they were on the
ropes from the beginning of the 2nd half. Newcastle need to keep this
same level of commitment and combine it with consistency and the extra
quality the returning Emre and like provide, a dash up the League
may be possible. - Ben Nigam
Let's not get carried away with this win fellow Geordies. Souness
is still shite and we should be picking up points off the likes of
Arsenal anyway, not treating a win over them as some kind of giant
killing. Get real. We could have been out of sight in the first half.
It was a big win though as we needed it, further proof that the players
can win games, but try telling Souness that who makes excuses for
them all the time. - Magpie Charlie
What a shame to see Shearer get away with one brutal challenge after
the other, he should have been sent off. - Niels (Arsenal
fan)
Namby pamby southerners. They just cannot take it when the going gets
tough. Wenger is a wuss. - Keith Richardson
A bit of pride and passion that's what we have needed, a pity Arsenal
cannot show the same commitment in a game instead of moaning all the
time. - Steve Dalton
As a Gunners fan I have to say Shearer had no right to be on the pitch
by the games' end. On the positive side though, Toon played better
than I have seen them for a while. Souness has the basics of a good
side if you can retain Owen and avoid injuries next year. Shearer
is a cheat, plain and simple and no amount of talking about playing
a man's game can hide that fact. - Ernest
Arsenal fan here. Can I be the first (and probably only) to apologise
on behalf of our moaning manager, fans, and players. This is what
we need, a wake up call. Had we shown the same commitment as the Geordies
we'd have won comfortably but we fell apart and that's been our problem
for the past two seasons now. I was embarrassed reading all those
sour grape match reports from my fellow fans, when the team should
be criticised, we blame the referee... Good luck Geordies. -
Peter Anderson
Scott Parker, words cannot describe how well he played and the commitment
he showed. Pure class. - Dodds
A truly inspiring performance from Newcastle. I thought Parker, Shearer
and Ramage were all fantastic and we defended really well as well.
Just a perfect result. Can't wait til the Hammers game, we should
go into that with lots of confidence and we should fear no-one. -
Mickey
Woo hoo... can't believe we just beat the Gooners. I thought we would
get beat but we didn't. Shearer, what can you say about the man. How
dare anyone write him off, he's still got it and can put in performances
like that if everyone around him is showing the same passion as he
does. Good on Souey, he's took a lot of crap since he become manager
and we should all get behind him now. - David Exley
Thanks to everyone who wrote in, keep them coming. |
