| Dear
readers, fellow fans Newcastle-Online.com will be breaking from our editorial policy to back the man pictured above - Ottmar Hitzfeld - to replace Graeme Souness as Newcastle United manager. Usually we are impartial on such matters and are loathe to take sides on these issues but we fear that a large percentage of your views expressed on this site, who would like Hitzfeld as manager, are being or will be ignored by the media in general and therefore the club. So we will basically campaign to promote his name on your and our behalf. According to our online poll, discussions on the forum and from e-mails sent in to us, many of you lot who visit the site want Hitzfeld to replace Souness yet no other form of media are or have picked up on this, citing names like Martin O'Neill or Sam Allardyce as the "fans favourite". This is clearly not true and while we understand those two and others, all have their support amongst the faithful, so does Ottmar Hitzfeld. Not just on here either, but across the Internet with Tyne-Talk, BBC Newcastle 606 forums, Toontastic, NUFC-Forum and of course Hitzfeldforthetoon.com as well as various other supporter related websites, all backing the German. Indeed, at St. James' Park during the Portsmouth game, Ottmar Hitzfeld banners and flyers could be seen, so this isn't a small band of supporters as one national reporter claims, but many as highlighted by those aforementioned websites. Although we'd dearly love to see the German fella in the hot seat because he is without a doubt one of the best manager's in world football (see the dossier, we aren't naive enough to believe that a few links and messages on a fans' website will actually see him appointed as Souness' successor. However we are hopeful we can raise his profile further and to engage fellow fans to look beyond the media driven names. By promoting Hitzfeld, we are not just promoting a name but a whole style of manager - i.e. an experienced, world renowned manager, a man who ticks all boxes, and hopefully this will say to the media and the club that WE the supporters of Newcastle United, want the best or manager's of a certain calibre. If this collective 'campaign' can somehow force the club to look his way, to run the rule over him, then we will at least know that the club think like we do - that only top quality managers will do and that's all we want, a top quality manager, preferably Hitzfeld but we wouldn't turn our noses up at equally qualified names. But we need YOUR help. Get proactive, check out the How To Help page. Newcastle-Online.com News Already fans' efforts to get Hitzfeld's name mentioned in the media have had an impact, more and more media outlets are now mentioning Hitzfeld's name as a popular choice of fans, media like Sky Sports, BBC 5 Live, The Independent, Century Radio and various other forms of media. That is all we want, for those of us who would like to see Hitzfeld at the Toon, to be represented accordingly by the media. We also understand that Newcastle United have copies of the Hitzfeld Dossier so lets hope they ar least run the rule over him, again, that's all we want (we being those that would like Hitzfeld) for the club to consider him as an option. PS If YOU want to promote some other name, write in, this site is still your platform to voice an opinion and your voice will be heard on these pages, whether that be via online polls, the forum or writing an article. We welcome all submissions and alternative views. |
