About This website

Newcastle-Online.com Team: Gosport Toon

The Team
Gosport Toon as he is known as played for Middlesbrough Schoolboys in the 70's in the same team as Chris Kamara of Sky Sports fame and played once or twice with Bob Mortimer of Reeves and Mortimer fame and is good friends with Uriah Rennie, the referee who sent off Big Al a few years back.

He also played for Yorkshire Schoolboys and signed Schoolboy Forms for Middlesbrough and played for Middlesbrough Juniors, but missed the cut when the apprenticeships were dished out.

Gosport Toon has also had a run-in with the current Toon boss having played against Graeme Souness at the Club's Training Ground and watched him playing for the Boro until he left for Liverpool.

He left the Boro 28 years ago so his lungs are almost clear now. In the past he has played Saturdays and Sundays to a decent standard before hanging up his boots at the age of 30. But the bug never went away, making a comeback aged 40 and he managed to squeeze 4 years out of the old body until his knee gave him too much gip.

He has supported the Toon since about 1972 and remembers going to see the lads play Liverpool at St. James's when Keegan and Toshack were playing for Liverpool and McDonald and Tudor scored in a 2-1 win against the best team in the country.

He's been hooked ever since.
