Newcastle-Online.com Team: Archie Brand

The Team
Archie Brand used to play a mean game between the sticks until a combination of injury and lethargy put paid to a mediocre footballing career.

While growing up his footballing idol was Bob Moncur.

Following a brief affair with those glamour boys at Leeds United, Archie saw the light in the mid Seventies and began following his "home" team of Newcastle.

Having passed a meagre 6 "O" Levels at Hexham Grammar, and given up the 6th Form by first bell he explored a wide variety of career options, including Barman, Labourer, Trainee Architect and Mechanic before finally settling for a futrue in Electronics.

He joined the Royal Air Force in a bid to see the world, and spent his entire career at RAF Boulmer in Northumberland - 30 miles away from his birthplace of Bellingham.

A certain degree of disillusionment led to Her Majesty agreeing to let him go and he took up gainful employment elsewhere, spending the last 17 years living and working in different parts of the Middle East.

He keeps up to speed on events relating to the Toon via the internet. Last time he saw the inside of St. James' Park a certain Paul Gascoigne was starting to make a name for himself.

Archie has invested in a reasonable satellite set-up which allows him to watch most of the Toon games live, plus an unhealthy number of other fixtures get recorded for later viewing, so he likes to think that his geographical isolation from the premiership allows him to take a more objective view of events.
