Newcastle-Online.com Team: Aphrodite Interview
First Toon match?
Newcastle United v Tranmere in the FA Cup in the 1997/8 season. Was
a pretty poor game, and King Al scored the only goal. Fantastic atmopshere
though, and thats when the Toon bug kicked in.
Toon heroes past & present?
Present hero has to be Alan Shearer. Fantastic servant to the club,
and a fantastic goalscorer. I'm also a big Shay Given fan. In the
past, Peter Beardsley, although I didn't see a great deal of him.
I also loved players like Rob Lee and Warren Barton who gave everything
for the Toon.
Proudest moment following United?
Has to be the Champions League run of 2002/03. Seeing the amount of
Newcastle fans in the San Siro, and the team's performance in that
campaign was superb. Made you very proud to follow Newcastle.
Worst moment following United?
The two FA Cup final defeats. After a long cup run, seeing the team
limp out so weakly on such big games was heart-breaking. Sporting
Lisbon last season as well, I'm still convinced we could have won
it if we had beaten them.
Best player in your time supporting?
Alan Shearer, the model of the perfect striker in his day.
And worst player?
I don't really remember Fumaca, so I'd have to say Carl Serrant. I
can only remember him making a few starts, but he was awful in every
one. Honorable mention to Guivarch as well.
Your best NUFC eleven in your time supporting?
Given, Barton, Woodgate, Boumsong, Beresford, Solano, Lee, Beardsley,
Ginola, Shearer, Ferdinand
And your worst NUFC eleven?
Karelse, Beharall, Marcelino, Serrant, Quinn, Fumaca, Hamilton, Maric,
Pinas, Cort, Guivarc'h
