Many fans have boycotted games due to this and Glazer was the main reason why FC United was formed. The takeover, in my opinion, has ruined the great heritage of a great club. Some fans however seem unfazed by the takeover as they can't see what's going on behind the scenes. Obviously, the Glazers are in huge debt because of the takeover which restricts the transfer budget. If his ownership of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is anything to go by, ticket prices will be up dramatically within a few seasons, although they did win the Superbowl - their equivalent to the Champions League. Q: Sir Alex Ferguson's recent comments when approached by a fan, what do you make of that and how has it been received at Old Trafford? They were regarding ticket prices I believe and Fergie said "Go and watch Chelsea then!" In every club you'll get a few fans who are nutters but Fergie must get that every day. This one just been made public though. Q: Alan Smith, can he replace Roy Keane in central midfield? I'm unsure about that. Smith is a different player. Keane was a centre half who converted to a holding midfielder and Smith is a striker who is converting to a holding midfielder. It'll be a lot harder for Smith as he's so used to getting forward. Maybe if he gives into temptation going forward we'll be exposed at the back. Our tactics at the moment don't fit Smith. Q: With Chelsea's billions, how can Man Utd compete with the Blues? Can Man Utd wrestle the Title from them this season? We can beat anyone in the Premiership. Fact. If you saw our games with Arsenal in the league last season, you can see we have the sheer determination to beat the bigger sides, especially Arsenal and Chelsea. It's not about winning the league by beating Chelsea or Arsenal - we have to beat the likes of Blackburn and Everton - something we couldn't do last season. Chelsea can get anyone they want so we have no chance against them in the transfer market, unless the player wants to compete with about 25 others for a place. Q: You have made two Summer signings so far in Van Der Saar and Park Ji-sung, do you need more? And what are your thoughts on the two players that you have signed? Edwin van der Sar could be the difference between us getting 2nd instead of 3rd or even us winning the title. He gives us the solidity at the back with Greedy Rio, something we haven't had for many years now. I don't know why we didn't sign him back in 1999. Ji Sung Park is more of an investment and future prospect. He will earn us money in the Asian market and he can produce on the pitch. I think he'll be preferred to Giggs many times this season. Q: What are Man Utd's main strengths and weaknesses in your opinion? Strengths would be our strike force and experience. We have Ruud van Nisterlooy, Wayne Rooney and Louis Saha at our disposal up front backed up by the experience of Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville. Weaknesses, as mentioned, would be giving away silly points like we did last season. Q: How will you lineup on Sunday and who will be your key players? I'm sure the starting lineup will be: E Van der Sar; W Brown, R Ferdinand, M Silvestre, G Heinze, D Fletcher, R Keane, P Scholes, SJ Park , W Rooney, R van Nistelrooy. Rooney will be key as he is fresh from not playing against Debrecen in midweek. Q: In your opinion, who will be a danger from Newcastle? Well, unless you get Luque in time for the game you'll struggle upfront. Alan Shearer is a great player on his day but your strength is in midfield. I hear Emre might start or feature while Jenas and Scott Parker can break anything down in the midfield. Q: What do you make of Newcastle's Summer signings? Emre looks a good buy, we were linked with him. Scott Parker had a bad time with Chelsea so has it all to prove again. I'm surprised you didn't try for Owen and Luque earlier on in the season. I'm sure if you bought a striker a few weeks ago you'd have more points on the board. Q: What players if any, would you have from Newcastle? Good question. I'd take Boumsong and Scott Parker. I'd give Parker a run in midfield to replace Keane instead of Smith as I think Parker will always be better in midfield than Smith. Boumsong is a generally better player than Mikael Silvestre as well. Q: What are your honest opinions of Newcastle as a club, a City, St. James' Park and Toon fans? Your away support is fantastic - always making noise. Newcastle United are under the wrong guidance of Souness and have a controversial chairman in Freddy Shepherd. I think you need a quiet, reserved chairman. Sometimes bad press in the media rub off on performances. Q: Freddy Shepherd, do you have an opinion on him? Not really as I don't know that much about him. All I know is that he should stay behind the scenes instead of poking his head out into the press now and again. Q: Rio Ferdinand, consummate professional or mercenary? Fans are starting to call him Greedy Rio but he's a fantastic defender regardless of his over-paid salary. Q: Sky, good or bad for the game - what are your thoughts on this? Bad for the bigger teams as United, Chelsea etc have their fixture times all over the shop. We're either playing on a Saturday morning, Saturday evening or a Sunday afternoon. Sky benefits the smaller clubs though, which is good for them. Q: The Premiership, is it overrated or a great League - what are your thoughts on it? Best league in the world, much better than La Liga. I heard there's talk of a 'European Superleague' but that would just destroy the game. Q: Finally, do you have a prediction for the match? 2-0 United. Rooney to score both. |
