Review (July 1st 2005)

Clear Cut are a relatively new Geordie band hailing from the West End of Newcastle and what started out as a gathering of good friends in a Tyneside kitchen, the foursome - consisting of composer, musician and vocalist Paul Dixon, vocalist John Anderson and songwriters/lyricists Alfred & Irving (Toon Ale) Graham - have went on to produce a fantastic debut album titled 'Geordie Gizza Bit from Cradle to the Grave' which has went into full production and is available to buy now

With 12 tracks all told, the album chronicles the life of an ordinary working-class Geordie, as the title says, from the cradle to the grave and unlike a few so-called Geordie albums this one is very real, with authentic West End vernacular which is refreshing.

The Hoppings, Tyne Bridge, Scotswood Road, Bonna Night, Newcastle United, Wor Jackie and other Toon things gets notable mentions as the album celebrates Geordie life from a time gone by. There is even a ganning to the match type of song in there titled 'Bring Back The Noise' which will strike a cord with many Toon fans.

There is a cynical undertone to some of the songs and it can get quite deep in some parts but these lads are singing from the heart. With tremendous lyrics and uplifting music however the album is bubbly, punchy and very easy listening. It's also got humerous undertones and in parts, puts a smile on your face.

'Geordie Gizza A Bit' has everything for everyone, and if you like your 'Blaydon Races' (who doesn't?) and your 'Home Newcastle' as well as other Geordie related songs and music then you will absolutely love this. Great stuff.
