[Readers Mailbag +] Injury News: Luque Fulham Doubt?
The Chronicle claim all of them reported back to training with no knocks or anything like that while Sky Sports are claiming new signing Albert Luque is a doubt for Saturday's match at home to Fulham. Albert Luque is a doubt for Newcastle's Premiership clash with Fulham on Saturday after picking up an injury playing for Spain. Luque was only introduced as a second half substitute for the final 16 minutes of their World Cup qualifying draw against Serbia & Montenegro on Wednesday. The former Deportivo La Coruna marksman picked up an ankle injury shortly after coming on but Spain had already made their three substitutions and he had to play on until the final whistle. Luque will now undergo tests back at Newcastle but early indications say that he will not be able to make Saturday's visit of Fulham to St James' Park Internationals: Toon Players On DutyMichael Owen will go down in history as a member of the team that was beaten by Northern Ireland as England lost their first game in their bid to qualify for the 2006 World Cup last night at Windsor Park. A fantastic David Healy strike late into the second half was enough to give the home side all 3 points in a historic win and a shameful one for the Three Lions. Owen, starved of service all game as Sven went with the dreaded 4-5-1 formation once again, had just a few half chances at goal, an opportunistic overhead kick just before the break and a glancing header at the near post in the second half. Other than that United's record signing barely featured. Lets hope he gets more service at the weekend. For Northern Ireland ex-Mags Aaron Hughes and Keith Gillespie both had storming games, with Hughes in particular impressing as he marked our No.10 out of the game. A splendid performance from our former full-back, picking up the man of the match award. In other internationals Alberto Luque came on in the second half for Spain in their 1-1 draw at home to Serbia & Montenegro. Meanwhile over in the Republic of Ireland Shay Given and Stephen Carr with ex-Toon man Andy O'Brien in the side, lost 1-0 to Jean-Alain Boumsong's France. All three played the full 90 minutes, as did Owen. |
