Match Preview: Portsmouth Vs NUFC

I can’t remember the last time I wrote a match preview with a positive spin to it, but at the moment I feel obliged to! Two league wins in a row for the first time in ages has put us in the top half of the, albeit a meaningless league table at the moment, but the signs are looking good.

Former Toon Chairman Passes Away

From the official NUFC website:

Newcastle United are saddened to learn of the death of Gordon McKeag, chairman of the club from 1988-90. Mr McKeag, in his mid-70's, passed away on Thursday evening.

Chief Operating Officer Russell Cushing said 'Newcastle United pays its respects to Gordon McKeag as a great supporter of the club.

He was Chairman at a turbulent time in the club's history and he will be remembered by many players and staff of his time as somebody with granite principles, but always with the best interests of the club at heart. Our sympathies are extended to his family.'

Transfer News: Toon Youngster Joins Carlisle On Loan

Carlisle United have signed the Toon's Irish midfielder Alan O'Brien on a month's loan. 20 year-old O'Brien has yet to make an apperance for United but did make the bench 2 weeks ago at Ewood Park and has been flying in the reserves.

Carlisle manager Paul Simpson said:

"O'Brien is a player with genuine pace, and can also use the ball well.

"We think this will be a good move for both him and us and we're delighted to have him on board."
