Match Report: NUFC 1-1 Fulham

On Saturday we played a team many have down for a long hard slog fighting the drop. A side who cost a combined total of just over £10m. A side who also lost their goalkeeper and top scorer in the Summer. Yet they left St. James' Park having played us off it. Leaving with one point when they deserved all three... and more than the one goal we gifted them, too.

Reserves: Everton 1-0 NUFC

A Newcastle reserve side containing Titus Bramble, Lee Clark and Robbie Elliott lost 1-0 to Everton last night at Southport. A second half goal from the Toffees Chinese international Lie Ti was enough to end United's unbeaten start to the season.

United:Caig, Baxter, Elliott, Bramble, Edgar, Gate, Atkin (Cave 58), Clark, Finnigan, O'Brien, Marshall (Farman 58). Subs not used: Smith, Shanks.

Academy News: Toon Snap Up Youngster

From today's Chronicle:

Newcastle United have snapped up Lomana LuaLua's cousin Kazinga.

The 15-year-old striker has joined Glenn Roeder's academy in his bid to follow his relative into a career in professional football.

And the word I hear from the United training ground is that Kazinga is a replica of Lomana in that he plays the same way and has all the tricks of the Portsmouth striker.

When LuaLua left for the south coast, some of his family stayed on Tyneside and Kazinga still lives within a corner kick of the club's training complex.

And the fact that Kazinga has joined Roeder's academy set-up shows that there are no bad feelings between the LuaLua family and United.

For Lomana refused to come back and help United out in their UEFA campaign the season before last when he was on loan to Portsmouth and Sir Bobby Robson found himself short of strikers for the semi-final in Marseille.

United have also signed Shola Ameobi's younger brother Sami on academy forms and David Edgar on a full professional contract after the young central defender starred for the first team in their recent friendly against Malaga.

Roeder said: "All we can do is hope that Kazinga and Sam go on to do as well with us as their older relatives have"

Injury News: Luque Sidelined For 2 Months

The official website are reporting that Albert Luque's injury is worse than first thought. The Spanish international pulled his hamstring in the first-half of United's 1-1 draw with Fulham on Saturday and was expected to be out for up to 4-6 weeks but he will be out for up to 8-10 weeks now.
