Farce: Bolton 2-0 NUFCThe misery continues for Newcastle with Bolton Wanderer's picking up their first win of the season last night at the Reebok, beating our hapless lot by two clear goals on a night to forget but one that will linger in the mind for a while yet no doubt. United created just two meaningful chances all game, one a Bowyer shot that was cleared off the line in the opening minutes by ex-Toon man Gary Speed and a long range Shearer effort late into the second half that was parried away. Other than that zero creativity, zero movement, zero belief... zero hope? Souness started with the same back-five but dropped Milner and N'Zogbia for Faye and Ameobi respectively with Shearer up top all alone once more. And for 37 minutes we did all the right things, pressing the ball, clearing our lines and competing for space but we just folded like we often do on this ground with two goals either side of the break killing us off, Diouf and want-away Giannakopoulos grabbing them. What followed was a resignation of defeat from the away side, heads bowed and on the touch-line the manager's use of substitutes and 'tactics' did little to restore hope or change things positively. Shearer, usually bemoaning every decision that goes against him couldn't even muster himself to do that on a night where anti-Souness and Freddy Shepherd chants reverberated throughout the away end. With Manchester United up next at St. James' Park and with no sure sign that new bodies will be thrust through the door by then, not even a month into the new season and the faithful are already looking to the high heavens for a miracle or two. Whether that's the sacking of Souness who isn't doing himself any favours at the moment with his weird formations, poor use of tactics and substitutions or the purchase of Owen (or anyone for that matter) who knows but if questions aren't answered pretty soon, United fans will start asking their own and it won't be pretty. The mood is one of anger, resignation and sheer frustration and the sense of deja-vu is overwhelming. Totally unacceptable even with our striker crisis and if things don't change for the better starting on Sunday, we'll be demanding changes of our own.
