Premiership: NUFC 0-0West Ham United

Despite playing against 10 men for the final 35 minutes of a drab, all too familiar affair yesterday afternoon, United still failed to see off West Ham at a sun swept St. James' Park, ending the game 0-0 with last season's No.1 ditty on Tyneside being aired at the final whistle - boos and jeers.

With Dyer and Emre both out injured the pack got shuffled once more, in came Milner and N'Zogbia on the flanks with Bowyer switching to a more central role alongside Parker and Jenas with Shearer once more left up top all alone. The back-five were unchanged for a change.

The first half was a pretty none existent 45 with both sides feeling each other out and both 'keepers topping up their pre-season tans as neither team had any goal mouth action of note. The effort was there from Newcastle but the movement in midfield and up front wasn't.

In all honesty, we never looked capable of creating a chance never mind grabbing one. But hopes looked to have been given a boost when in the second half Hammers' new signing Konchesky was red-carded for a last-man 'foul' on Jenas who broke free.

Like last Sunday where we were the victims of an incompetent linesman, West Ham were on the receiving end this time. Konchesky clearly won the ball as replays later showed and it was never a sending off.

Unlike the Gunners though, we couldn't do what they did to us, failing to exert our numerical advantage over the away side to pick up three points. In the end, West ham could have nicked it but for a last minute intervention from Taylor.

The biggest cheer of the day came when lee Clark made his comeback late into the second half, 7 years after last playing for United. But the cheers turned to boos when the ref put everyone out of their misery and blew up for full-time.
