...Is one who instinctively knows when to make changes to
revitalise a team heading towards a downward spiral. Arsene Wenger
and Alex Ferguson are both experts at spotting weaknesses in their
teams and then fixing them. Spotting players who no longer fit in
and replacing them with ones who do. This is why they have stayed
with their respective clubs for such a long time and brought success
throughout those years and why they are irreplaceable and regarded
as thee very best. [More

There are only two men who could save Newcastle United. Two men who
have what it takes to bring back fan confidence and belief. Two men
to put this club back at the top. Those men are Kevin Keegan and Alan
Shearer - the dream team. I have followed this club for 41 years.
I'm heading into my 50th year as a Geordie citizen and I have seen
it all at Newcastle but never have I seen such a period of uncertainty
- even way back before Sir John Hall. [More

I feel I need to write in having read your quite damning appraisal
of Terry Venables and although he isn't at the top of my own list,
that would be Celtic's Martin O'Neill, I can see a level of reasoning
behind the idea of bringing in El Tel as a short-term option. An option
I'm not dead-set against if it allows for time to pass so that we
can bring in the right long-term man for the job. [More

If the local press is to be believed then Terry Venables is in town
to secure the occupancy of Sir Bobby's recently vacated hot seat.
Over the past twenty fours however I have bore witness to an ever
growing band of Newcastle supporters lobbying for the appointment
of ex Bayern Munich coach Ottmar Hitzfeld. This support eventually
led yesterday to Hitzfeld entering the betting market at 12-1. After
a large number of e-mails bringing Hitzfeld to my attention I decided
to research a little more about the German. [More

Freddy Shepherd Urges For Our Patience
Speaking to today's Chronicle, under fire Freddy Shepherd has asked
fans to be patient as he ponders over Sir Bobby's successor.
He said:
"I know the fans are impatient. But I am as impatient as they are.
"But what I have got to do is what is best for Newcastle United, not
what is best for my popularity.
"We don't want any knee-jerk reaction and we cannot rush into anything.
"We are trying to do things correctly and professionally. "Don't forget
there is a legal minefield out there and we have got to observe all
the rules of the Premiership.
"But we are talking to everyone we are legally entitled to and those
who we feel merit our consideration.
"What we must not forget is that it is the future of Newcastle United
which is at stake here and the most important thing is that we get
the right man."
Patience? We haven't won a trophy for 35 years and counting, we have
saw our best defender leave without a quality replacement, we have
saw a manager who you claimed as "unsackable" get the chop
and now you want our patience? We want answers Freddy. And then solutions.
El Tel: From The Horses Mouth...
Our under fire Chairman today squashed rumours that former England
boss Terry Venables was on Tyneside yesterday having a job interview.
Quotes attributed to Shepherd:
"Terry Venables has not been here (st. James' Park).
"I have not spoken to Terry Venables. I can't remember the last
time I saw him."
Put the party hats and the balloons on hold people...after all this
is Freddy Shepherd we are talking about here, the man who said Woodgate
would be sold over his dead boddy, the man who claimed Sir Bobby was
unsackable...
The Man From Gosforth Says No
Could this be why Freddy Shepherd has come out and denied he has been
in contact with El Tel?
Shearer quotes:
"I went to see the chairman and simply told him I was too young and
did not want to take on the manager's position.
"This is a huge club and a huge job and I do not think I am ready
for it. I decided to grasp the nettle before things got out of control.
"Yes I want to be a manager one day. If it was at Newcastle in the
future then that would be great. But I believe that is a long way
off, if indeed it ever happens.
"I think it is important I make this all public so rumours do not
grow any greater about what I will or will not do.
"It is flattering and humbling even to be linked with such a big job
but right now it simply is not for me.
"This is my final season and a big one for me and I just want to concentrate
on playing and doing my best for Newcastle United.
"Then I have my BBC TV work and I want to take the rest of my coaching
badges - but management is some way off yet." |
