Yet Onother Kick In The Teeth For The Toon Army
Rant..
Hot on the heels of paying a ludicrous £38 to attend St. Andrews,
ticket details for our game away at Crystal Palace have been announced
this past week and the price to attend Selhurst Park is a staggering
£35. Aye that's right, £35 to sit in one of the worst stadiums in
the top flight. Palace of course just come up last season and will
head straight back down hopefully. How they have the temerity to charge
such an exorbitant price is down right scandalous. The loyalty of
supporters like ourselves are being abused, so much for the Taylor
Report eh?
We could all say enough is enough and not attend, but there will be
a queue to take our place so in short, football clubs have us by the
short and curly's and there isn't a thing we can do about it.
One day the bubble will burst and they'll beg us to attend just like
Sunderland dish out free tickets to their lot in an attempt to get
them to go. In the meantime we will continue to receive these kicks
in the teeth and even smile about it. One day...
Bellamy & Big Al Set To Rekindle Partnership
Today's Chronicle are reporting that Dutchman Patrick Kluivert is
a doubt for Sunday's trip to Charlton Athletic as Newcastle look to
make it 5 games unbeaten in the Premiership. Kluivert had to come
off in United's last match at St. Andrews of course with a recurrence
of an old hamstring injury and the man with 6 goals in 5 starts hasn't
resumed full training since.
This could open the door for Craig Bellamy to rekindle his partnership
up front alongside Alan Shearer and maybe see James Milner make his
first start under Souness out wide on the right with Jermaine Jenas
likely to take up the left flank position.
Souness had this to say regarding Kluivert's fitness:
"Patrick Kluivert's coming on fine, though he's actually got an infection
in his mouth.
"His hamstring is reacting well to treatment, but we've got to get
it right with the games coming up."
Defensive Duo To Get Run Out
Centre-back pair Titus Bramble and Ronny Johnsen will get a run out
tonight as Newcastle's reserves take on Aston Villa at Villa Park.
It will come as a relief to Souness to have Bramble back in contention,
who hasn't played at all this season due to a hamstring injury that
he picked up in our 2-1 defeat at Celtic back in Pre-Season, where
as Ronny Johnsen will be making his second outing for the reserves
as he looks to get fully fit.
Souness said:
"I hope Titus and Ronny come through 90 minutes. It's Ronny's second
game and he's getting closer to full fitness."
A Job For The Boys
Kenny Wharton is to return to Newcastle as Academy Coach to work alongside
Academy Director John Carver. Wharton made 335 appearances for United
from 1978-89 and played alongside the likes of Kevin Keegan, Peter
Beardsley, Chris Waddle and Paul Gascoigne.
Wharton of course left United in controversial circumstances after
he and Peter Beardsley were both accused of bullying a number of Toon
youngsters and although an FA Tribunal found both innocent, the former
defender resigned from his post.
However he is glad to be back, saying:
"It is a real privilege. My heart has always been in the club and
I look forward to continuing the proud tradition of our academy.
"The region is a hotbed of football, and we must make every effort
to capitalise on that and make sure Newcastle United remains the only
club young players want to sign for."
Fat Fred's NUFC Marketing Campaign A Hit
Sunday's Sky One show 'The Match' proved a massive hit with TV viewers
according to Digital Spy:
A peak of more than 2.5 million viewers tuned in for the final
of Sky One's celebrity football reality series The Match yesterday,
according to overnight ratings figures. The channel handed over its
entire primetime schedule to coverage of the game between a team of
amateur celebrities and a team of soccer legends.
The game itself, broadcast between 8pm and 10pm, averaged a massive
2.16 million viewers - a 13.8% share of the multichannel audience
- making it one of Sky One's most-watched shows ever. The peak of
2.61 million viewers (18.4%) came at 10.10pm.
A preview show at 5pm had pulled in a respectable 420,000 (4.6%),
peaking at 5.50pm with 544,000 (5.7%). Two episodes of ratings banker
The Simpsons fared well in the 6pm hour, drawing audiences of 0.68
million (4.6%) and 1.06 million (8.9%) respectively.
The ratings spiked at 7pm for pre-match coverage, anchored by Ulrika
Johnsson and Mark Durden-Smith, holding a steady 1.19 million (8.4%)
average across the hour. Post-match analysis continued to deliver
high numbers in the 10pm hour, with an average of 1.66 million (12.8%).
Whether this 'success' manifests out on the pitch, remains to be seen... |
