Toon Fans Want Shearer To Stay On

Well the vast majority of Newcastle-Online.com readers who voted in a poll we have been running for the past week or so do anyway.

Should Shearer stay on for another season Poll results:

Aye - 112 people voted yes he should.
No - 44 people voted no he should not.
Only if he doesn't break Wor Jackie's record this season - 63 people voted.

Will the No.9 do as he has maintained all along, retire, or will he carry on as many hope he does? Fingers crossed that he does retire - with Wor Jackie's record in the bag and a trophy under his arm.

Chopra Does The Business Again

On-loan Toon striker Michael Chopra grabbed his 15th goal for Barnsley yesterday as the Yorkshire side beat high flying Luton Town 3-1 at Kenilworth Road to move up into 12th in the Table.

And while Shola Ameobi has just the 1 League goal to his name all season and doubts over Alan Shearer, Patrick Kluivert and Craig Bellamy's future remain, with every goal Chopra scores his army of fans grow.

Despite unimpressing at United it has to be said that 1 start in just the 10 appearances is hardly conclusive evidence that the England Under-21 man won't make it at Premiership level.

Since being farmed out to Oakwell Chopra's game has improved significantly. After enduring a barren spell in front of goal and racist abuse from a mindless minority of Barnsley fans as well as struggling to get to grips with life in Division Two, he now can't stop scoring.

Does he deserve a recall come the Summer? Would you like to see him back at Newcastle?

Update: Chopra made it 16 goals to his name on Bank Holiday Monday (the 28th), notching against Wallsall in a 3-2 win. As he did against Luton, he also missed a penalty.

Toon International Round-Up

Kieron Dyer came on for David Beckham with 20 minutes to go in England's 4-0 romp of Northern Ireland yesterday afternoon with Aaron Hughes Skippering his Country at Old Trafford. Will Sven start Dyer at St. James' Park on Wednesday?

Toon trio Shay Given, Stephen Carr and Andy O'Brien all made a return to the Ramat Gan Stadium as the Republic of Ireland drew 1-1 with Israel in Tel Aviv, the Israelis scoring a last minute equaliser.

Jean-Alain Boumsong made his full competitive debut for France in their 0-0 draw with Switzerland last night.

Amdy Faye scored one of his Country's 6 goals as Senegal thrashed Liberia 6-1.

James Milner played the full 90 minutes for Peter Taylor's England Under-21s who drew 2-2 with Germany. Steven Taylor came on as a last minute substitute.

Craig Bellamy played the full 90 minutes of Wales 2-0 defeat to Poland at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
