Good Things Come To Those Who Wait, Apparently!
The dust hasn't even settled on season 2004-05 yet and already the
nail biting has begun with the No.1 question on everyone's lips; When
will Newcastle buy someone?
Calm yourselves, we never bought anyone in the month of June last
year with our first signing of last season arriving on July 3 - James
Milner.
There is plenty of time to bring in new faces and to do our transfer
business. Players, managers and club officials are either all on holiday
or finishing off their end of season commitments and plans.
We will dip our toes into the murky water that is the transfer market
soon enough. Just be patient man.
Food For Thought? Managers & Their Media Personality
I've often thought that a manager can
be judged a lot on their media personality and that a great deal of
understanding and knowledge about them can be had just from this aspect
of their job alone, a great deal in my opinion. If you look at certain
managers and how they come across in their respective interviews and
press conferences, you'll often see that the image being presented,
is often the image that their respective teams perform to out on the
pitch.

Shay & O'Brien On International Duty For Ireland
Newcastle duo Shay Given and
Andy O'Brien were both on international duty last night for
the Republic of Ireland who drew 2-2 with Israel at Lansdowne Road
to earn a point, despite being 2-0 up in their 2006 World Cup Qualifier.
The pair didn't have the greatest of night's with Shay having to pick
a penalty out of the back of the net where as O'Brien was sent
off for a shove on the Israeli 'keeper.
Former Leeds left-back Ian Harte put the Republic 1-0 up before alleged
Toon target Robbie Keane made it two with just over 10 minutes on
the clock. Scoring his 25th international goal of his career.
Ireland continued to press forward and could have put the game out
of sight but they were soon pegged back on 39 minutes when Avi Yehiel
rose to head in a superb cross from the foot of rumoured United target
Yossi Benyoun who had an effective game.
And it was Benyoun who played his part in his side's equaliser just
before the break, John O'Shea climbing all over the fleet footed midfielder
to hand the away team a penalty.
Despite having to take it three times due to encroachment, Nimny made
easy work of his pen however to level the scores.
After the break the home side threw everything at their visitors in
search of a 3rd goal but Israel's chances of hanging on were increased
when O'Brien got his marching orders with just under 10 minutes remaining.
The United man fouled goalkeeper Dudu Aouate after challenging for
a high ball but when the pair fell to the ground, the 'keeper seemed
to punch O'Brien and as the centre-hald turned around, the Israeli
No.1 fell backwards as if he had been head butted. Conning the ref
with a disgraceful bit of play acting.
And that's how the scores stayed.
P.S Manager Brian Kerr has confirmed he will be appealing against
O'Brien's dismissal. |
