Lee Bowyer Update
From Sky Sports News, yesterday: Lee Bowyer wants
to move to France, according to Birmingham City co-owner David Sullivan.
The Blues chief feels the Newcastle United midfielder is worried about
attacks from the large Asian community in England's second city even
though he was acquitted of all charges for his part in an assault
on an Asian student in Leeds.
Speaking to The Birmingham Evening Mail, Sullivan tried to explain
some of the reasoning behind Bowyer's decision to snub a move to St
Andrews.
It is claimed that Bowyer is only interested in a move to London or
Ligue 1, which is something of a surprise.
"He told us yesterday that he would only leave Newcastle if a London
club came in for him," revealed Sullivan. "Or one from France.
"Why France? Apparently he likes it and believes he could live quite
anonymously over there.
"Steve [Bruce], we thought, had turned him round but he was genuinely
worried that, one night, there would be ten Asians waiting outside
his house ready to kick seven bells out of him.
"When he spoke to Steve, right at the start, his first question was:
'What about the big Asian population in Birmingham?'"
Aston Villa boss David O'Leary denied he had any interest in the former
Leeds midfielder on Tuesday. |
