Robert Portsmouth Move Contradiction (Update)
Update: Reports today had claimed that Laurent Robert's
move to Portsmouth was only a loan deal but Milan Mandaric, speaking
to Sky Sports News in the last hour or so, insists the deal is for
three years and not a loan deal as had been reported this morning.
Fresh quotes: "Robert is signing for three years.
It is permanent, there is no doubt about that.
"I don't think that's the case (loan deal).
"As I said before he has signed for three years.
"There is some debate between them and us, he will definitely play
at home at Fratton Park but we will resolve that at a later date.
"We have a very good relationship with Newcastle and will resolve
this in the right way."
Earlier we reported the following quotes attributed to Mandaric in
today's papers: "It is a two-part deal. We have taken
him now and if all goes well we will sign him permanently."
And quotes attributed to Chief Executive Peter Storrie, too:
"I suggest you talk to Newcastle because the deal was done
this way at their request.
"It was never in our interest to do a loan deal because it restricts
our movement in the transfer market because you are only allowed to
bring in two players on loan."
Newcastle have yet to confirm or deny these claims, however, Portsmouth
did release a statement saying they had signed Robert on a 3 year
deal when the news actually broke that he had moved to the Hampshire
club. After talks with Peter Storrie and Velimir Zajec
for most of the day Portsmouth can announce that they've signed Newcastle's
Laurent Robert on a 3 year contract for an undisclosed fee.
Chief Executive Peter Storrie said 'We are delighted with this signing
and I think it shows everybody not only our intentions, but some of
the top players ambitions for the future'.

Freddy Shepherd Reiterates Bellamy Stance
Quotes from Freddy Shepherd when asked about Craig Bellamy, speaking
to BBC Five Live: "You will have to ask the manager
that one, that is up to Graeme, but there is a long way to go yet
before the start of the season.
"Everybody will tell you I am a forgiving chap; whether or not he
plays for Newcastle again is up to the manager."
Handing Dyer A New Contract Would Be Sheer Madness
Time to cut our losses
Some of you reading this will be shaking your heads in disagreement
or even disbelief given just how well Dyer played towards the back
end of last season which both he and Graeme Souness deserve credit
for what was a quite remarkable turnaround in form and temperament.
Indeed for a period he was United's best player and looking the business
if you like, arguably playing his best football since his move from
East Anglia to Tyneside. Finally he started playing to his potential,
contributing and keeping his nose clean. So why cut our losses, you
ask?
