Former Toon player and assistant manager
to Kevin Keegan, Terry McDermott was added to the coaching staff
today, 6 years after he was last at the club, as caretaker manager.
A delighted McDermott had this to say:
"It's been six years since I was last working here and it's
wonderful to be back at such a big club.
"When I walked in here this morning I saw a lot of familiar
faces, which made me feel I was back home.
"This is a massive club with massive potential and a club that
should be winning trophies.
"The players that are at this club are top quality, and the
potential that is here is frightening. As a squad there is no
reason why we should not be challenging for a top four spot
and hopefully we can bring some silverware to this club."
Souness added:
"I have finally got my man. I wanted him as an assistant
when I was manager at Liverpool but he decided to stay with
Kevin (Keegan) here at Newcastle. We go back along way and he
knows this club inside out and it is good to have him back."
