Match Preview: Arsenal Vs NUFC
After Saturday's home win against struggling
Southampton, we head to Highbury on Sunday to face the Champions live
on Sky Sports. The 2-1 win was good enough in the fact that we got
3 points at home to a struggling team, but as usual we made it harder
than it should have been! The 2nd home game in a row where we've gone
2-0 up and looked like comfortably winning resulted in a nervous 2-1
win. The reason? We simply don't convert our chances.
I wrote last week that I felt the return of Shearer would give us
the cutting edge we've been badly lacking, but even he couldn't score
in open play. Opposition keepers have a habit of playing well against
us this season, even a young Football League keeper kept us out for
most of Saturday, and unfortunately I expect more of the same from
the usually erratic Almunia. The return to fitness of Kluivert and
Shearer is a massive boost for the team, and in theory we should now
start scoring - but when have things ever been straightforward
with NUFC?!

Souness
Admits Amdy Faye Talks
Graeme Souness has admitted that Newcastle
United have had talks to bring Portsmouth midfielder Amdy Faye
to Tyneside, saying: "I can confirm that the two clubs, ourselves
and Portsmouth, are talking about the possible transfer of Amdy
Faye."
Souness also revealed: "We are talking to Portsmouth about both
players (Faye and Yakubu)."
However Portsmough Chairman Milan Mandaric states Pompey can't
afford to sell their main striker, speaking of the rumoured
double swoop he said: "We are under pressure to sell Faye, both
from Newcastle manager Graeme Souness and the player himself.
"Since his move to Fulham broke down, Faye has made it clear
he wants to move on and that his future lies elsewhere.
"But we have told Newcastle we cannot afford to sell Yakubu."
I guess we'll have to wait and see...
Chopra
Talks About His Future
Quotes attributed to Michael Chopra
from today's Chronicle:
"Barnsley has been great for me in terms of getting first
team football, but I believe I can play at a much higher level.
"If Newcastle don't want me back then I will be happy to go
to another Premiership club or one of the better Championship
sides.
"I have a lot of faith in my own ability, but it was disappointing
when I read all about the injury problems Newcastle had with
their strikers and they hadn't even tried to bring me back.
"Graeme Souness said he doesn't think he can release me, but
I would have loved to have come back. I wanted the opportunity
to show I can perform at that level.
"When Alan Shearer, Patrick Kluivert and Craig Bellamy were
all out with injuries, and I wasn't recalled, it was frustrating
because it would have been the opportunity I've waited for."
Dyer
- The Alternative View
Kieron Dyer has been with Newcastle
United for 5 and a half years, played in one cup final, worked
under three Newcastle bosses and been capped numerous times
for England. While his time here hasn't been a rip roaring success,
I feel it has been far from bad on the pitch. I am sick fed
up watching him whap his manhood out in the Bigg Market, or
wrapping vehicles around lampposts for example, but I feel that
a lot of the criticism of Dyer is purely speculation.
