Ronny
Johnsen Retires
Former Newcastle United defender Ronny
Johnsen has called time on his career.
The 35-year old stopper who has also played for Besiktas, Manchester
United and Aston Villa signed on at the begining of the season
as a free agent.
However he failed to impress, with injuries limiting him to
just 5 appearances in a black and white shirt.
Johnsen said:
"My partner wants to return home and that means I will not
go abroad again as a footballer.
"I will stay at home and that implies that my career will be
over. I have had tremendous experiences.
"What was biggest I can't answer but the best years at Manchester
United are hard to overlook."

To Get His Chance At Centre-Half
Souness quotes:
"The aim for Steven Taylor is to get him a game at centre-half.
"The centre of defence is a vital area for us - I have explained
my thinking on that in the past - and I would imagine you will
see Steven play at centre-half at some time this season.
"If I was a gambling man - and I'm not - I would stake a lot
of money on Steven Taylor having the temperament and the ability
to play at centre-half for this football club.
"He has shown that he can deal with playing in front of 52,000
people. That does not affect him and it does not worry him.
"Steven is still only a baby but he knows everyone loves him
when he gets into the team. The expectation levels on him are
enormous but he deals with the pressure. This is another challenge
for him but I think he has everything going for him."

Defence Of Graeme Souness!
While his team have been inconsistent,
Graeme Souness has at least been consistent in his appraisal
of what he believes he needs to do above all else - which is
to "address the defensive situation" as he puts it. I beg to
differ, I believe the midfield is our real achilles heel which
needs addressing first and not the defence. However, having
conceded 44 goals, he may well have a point (of course he has
a point). Which is why he signed three defensive players in
the January transfer window and has reverted to a defensive
game plan/mentality. To address the situation. To stop conceding
goals.
