Darlington Boss Eyes Toon's Lewis Guy
Darlington boss David Hodgson has admitted he is eyeing up Toon
youngster Lewis Guy with a view to taking the striker on loan.
Guy, who has only made one appearance for United - coming on
as a second half sub in our final UEFA Cup group stage match
against Sporting Lisbon at St, James' Park back in December
2004 - doesn't look like he'll be seeing any more first-team
action any time soon but whether Souness agrees to the loan
deal remains to be seen.
With only 3 recognised strikers to choose from and unable to
recall Michael Chopra from his season long loan spell at Barnsley,
should we pick up and injury or two, we'll be extremely short
of cover.
Hodgson had this to say: "I've made an approach
for Lewis but I'm still waiting for Graeme Souness to get back
to me.
"It has been frustrating that nothing has moved forward since
last week, although we are hopeful that something might happen
before the weekend."
Villa Confirm Toon-Solano Interest
Villa have responded to Graeme Souness' revelations in his BBC
Radio Newcastle phone-in the other night where he he claimed
NUFC made inquiries to sign former Toon player Nobby Solano
in January.
Villa's Chairman Doug Ellis had this to say: "It
is true that Newcastle approached the manager about Nobby, but
we rejected the interest out of hand and made it clear to Graeme
Souness that it wasn't going to happen.
"I suppose it's not surprising they wanted him back, anyone
who has seen Nobby in action for Villa will know we pulled-off
a real coup when we signed him last year.
"He's our top scorer this season and adds a real creative flair
to the side. He was a big favourite on Tyneside and is now a
big favourite with our supporters.
"Newcastle may now feel they made a mistake in letting him go.
We had no intention of making the same mistake when they asked
about re-signing him."
Meanwhile Nobby himself had this to say: "I
was surprised when I heard what Mr Souness had said during Tuesday's
radio interview because I wasn't aware Newcastle tried to buy
me back.
"David O'Leary knows nothing about any approach either but I
don't think he would have sold me, whatever the offer.
"I am happy at Villa and playing every week. But everybody knows
I never wanted to leave St James's Park and it was only because
of the previous manager that it happened.
"It is good to know that Mr Souness likes the way I play and
it would be easy for me to make the move back the North-East.
"It is just unfortunate I had to leave in the first place.
"But I am settled at Villa now and the manager has told me he
is trying to build a talented and exciting squad here."
I'll be honest, my initial reaction to these revelations were
that Souness was attempting to get on the good side of fans,
knowing how unpopular Solano's sale was and how popular the
little Peruvian had become to Toon fans.
However it appears these revelations were indeed true |
