Toon Line Up Crystal Palace's Andy Johnson?

According to the News of the World Newcastle are preparing a £7m Summer bid for Crystal Palace's highly rated striker Andy Johnson who has 15 Premiership goals to his name this season and has recently won an England Cap.

Considering the source of the story, it would be wise to take it with a pinch of salt but with Shearer retiring, Kluivert looking like he will be on his way and Bellamy at the point of no return, it seems the club will splash out on forward options in the close season (they have to) and with a short list of top-class goalscorers it wouldn't surprise me if the Toon were to make enquiries.

Whether AJ as he's commonly known as to Palace fans would fit the bill, remains to be seen. My opinion is that he's an exceptionally hard working striker with bags of pace and a keen eye for goal. More a poacher than an alrounder. His first touch is quite poor and he's somewhat a bit of a light-weight however. Nonetheless his goals speak for them self and he's impressed no end. But there have been many one hit wonders before him; Kevin Phillips, Michael Rickets and Marcus Stewart to name a few so he would represent a big risk in my opinion.

He's a Souness type of player though. Hard working, keeps out of the lime light and can play as a lone striker.

I guess we'll have to wait and see...

Shay Unhappy

Shay Given quotes concerning the off-field headlines that seem to forever dominate the club.

"It's just doing my head in.

"We should be talking about the football and not about other things. We are a football club.

"You don't hear stories like that coming out of Arsenal or Manchester United or even Chelsea - they are totally football stories.

"We must stop the bad press and try to focus totally on success on the pitch.

"You can't follow every player everywhere they go, but every player has got to stand up and be responsible for what they do.

"It is difficult. Some of the lads are young and don't know any better to a certain degree, but we all make mistakes in life, so it is important that we look forward rather than back."

We know how you're feeling Shay...

Toon's FA Cup Hopes Boosted

United's FA Cup hopes have been boosted by Jon Terry's 5th yellow card of the season, meaning the England man will miss our FA Cup tie on the 20th of May (next Sunday). Terry was booked in Chelsea's 1-0 victory over Everton at Goodison Park yesterday and will join Arjen Robben, Robert Huth and Scott Parker on the sidelines for the visit to St. James' Park.
