NUFC Vs Spurs

Home Sweet Home

After a pretty horrid week which saw one of our own players being booed at our ground while on International duty, that same player being forced to apologise for blatantly taking the piss out of the club (a meek apology I might add) and the sale of our prized defender Jonathan Woodgate to Real Madrid, we could be forgiven for forgetting about this game.

A game that couldn't have come quick enough. This past week hasn't been about football but about politics and money. A first home game of the Season against a team we usually do well against is the perfect medicine for our damaged hearts. Are we up for it? Damn right we are. We've had to wait a long time since that awful day against Wolves to redeem ourselves for that dark day in our history.

And redeem ourselves we must. After letting all 3 points slip in typical Toon fashion at the Riverside last Saturday it's imperative we make sure we grab them this time out against Spurs. A win will raise our spirits and that of the players.

A fascinating game awaits.

Rooney Toon's II

The week gets even sillier

This morning's Sun newspaper is running with a back page story claiming NUFC are planning a £30m swoop for Everton's Wayne Rooney.

Check it out...

Wayne Tooney

By Shaun Custis

Newcastle are planning a £30million bid for Wayne Rooney. Manchester United and Chelsea have taken a back seat in the race for Everton’s wonderkid.

So Newcastle are ready to steal a march on their rivals.
SunSport understand they have asked a leading bank to finance the deal and are waiting for the green light.

Newcastle failed with a £20m summer move for England’s Euro 2004 hero but are ready to bid again. They may have to wait for January’s transfer window as they are not sure the money will be in place before the current window closes on August 31.

Newcastle also need to bring in a quality centre-back to replace Jonathan Woodgate, who yesterday joined Real Madrid for £15m.

And they must plan for a future without Alan Shearer, who retires in the summer, while Craig Bellamy is dogged by injury problems.
Chairman Freddy Shepherd has indicated an exciting signing is in the offing.

And this Shaun Custis bloke is a Geordie and a Toon Supporter?

Bernard Ready To Commit To The Toon

Today's Chronicle are reporting that Olivier Bernard is close to signing a new deal, with the United left-back reiterating his desire to stay at the Toon.

Bernard quotes:

"We're still talking, and I think I will definitely sign for Newcastle. It's just a question of time.

"I want to stay and I hope the Chairman wants me to stay. I love Newcastle. I've been playing with Newcastle since I come England, and this is where I learnt English. It would be a big shame to leave Newcastle."

Lets hope this one doesn't drag on and on and on and...

Woodgate: Keep My No. 6 Shirt - I May Be Back

Jonathan Woodgate speaking in today's Chronicle:

"I'm gutted to leave Newcastle.

"I am going away and I'm disappointed because I am leaving Newcastle before I could show the fans what I can really do.

"I am leaving probably the most exciting bunch of young players in Europe, plus of course great players like Alan Shearer, along with the best fans and one of the best stadiums in Europe.

"But how can any player turn down Real Madrid? It's the only club I would have left Newcastle United for in the present circumstances.

"It was the hardest decision of my career, but I cannot miss out on the chance of playing with so many great players at Real.

"I spoke to the chairman and I told him to keep a hold of that number six shirt because I might be back one day.

"But maybe before that I can look forward to playing for Real against Newcastle in the Champions League one day."

I doubt many would be sorry to see him back in the Black & White if it doesn't work out for him at Madrid, but lets hope it does - good luck Woodgate.

Rangers Boumsong The Latest Linked

The hunt for Woodgate's replacement

Sky Sports News are linking Rangers French international centre-half Jean-Alain Boumsong to Newcastle this morning. Toon supporters will remember the Rangers man had a good game at St. James' Park a few weeks back when we beat the 'Gers 4-2. Boumsong signed on a free transfer from Auxerre a couple of months back and although Rangers have money problems it would seem crazy of them to sell him.

So Gallas, Huth, Davenport, Dawson and now Boumsong have all been linked. No doubt there will be many more linked over the coming week.
