Handling Potential: NUFC Have Failed Kieron Dyer

Ridiculous, he's the one who has failed NUFC you will be thinking. And you are right. He has failed the Toon. However I believe NUFC have also failed Kieron Dyer and will continue to fail yet more promising young players with the world at their feet and ultimately fail as a football club unless we foster higher standards, get tougher and start demanding more.

Toon Youngster Suffers Knee Ligament Damage

Toon youngster Matty Pattison, who made his United debut two weeks ago, coming on as a sub in the 2-1 friendly defeat against Celtic, has damaged his knee ligaments in training and could be out for up to 3 months.

Reserve team coach Tommy Craig had this to say:

"Matty has injured his knee - he twisted it in training. We're having it looked at now."

Meanwhile United's reserves kick-off their Premiership Reserve League campaign tonight against Manchester City in a 7pm start.

Reserve squad: Smith, Bartlett, Gate, Cave, Ramage, Taylor, Farman, Edgar, Baxter, Brittain, Smylie, Howe, Webster, Bates, Chopra, Guy.

Milner Stars For England Under 21's

James Milner started for Peter Taylor's new look England Under 21's last night at the Riverside Stadium as England beat the Ukraine 3-1. Milner lined up in the centre of the park and was substituted for Darren Bent on 59 minutes. This is what the BBC said about his performance:

James Milner took up some clever positions and moved the ball well from midfield to attack. Indeed, it was Milner who had England's first good chance on goal when he picked up Nicky Hunt's defence-splitting pass before turning and rifling a shot just over the crossbar.

Meanwhile Milner had this to say regarding playing on the flanks for Newcastle:

"I really enjoyed myself. I can play on the left as well but I would play anywhere as long as I am in the team. It doesn't bother me.

"At my age, getting experience in The Premiership is all that matters.

"I have to use that experience to try and become a better player."

On the prospect of making his home debut against Spurs on Saturday:

"It is going to be a very special day when I get the chance to play in front of our home fans.

"I have been waiting for that moment for a long time. I have played at St James' Park before and it is an incredible stadium with loud, passionate fans, but I have always been there as an opposition player.

"This will be different with the crowd right behind me."
