Toon Squad For Middlesbrough (a)
Sir Bobby has named a 20-man squad for tomorrow's match against Middlesbrough
at the Riverside. All 4 new Summer signings Nicky Butt, Stephen Carr,
James Milner and Patrick Kluivert make the squad as does Laurent Robert,
Titus Bramble, Shola Ameobi and Kieron Dyer - all thought to have
been in doubt. Whether they play any part remains to be seen.
United squad:
Given, Harper, Hughes, Carr, Bramble, Elliott, Bernard, Gate, Brittain,
Dyer, Jenas, Butt, Robert, Milner, Chopra, Shearer, Kluivert, Ramage,
Ameobi, Bellamy.
Lee Bowyer, Andy O'Brien and Tony Caig (Conjunctivitus) all miss out
as does Jonathan Woodgate (thigh), Darren Ambrose (knee) and Steven
Taylor (Foot).
Fitness doubts remain over Robert, Dyer, Ameobi and Bramble. Carr
and Butt are expected to make their full competitive Toon debuts from
the start.
Boro In Desperate Last Minute Ticket Sales Pitch
It seems our Yorkshire friends aren't all that up for tomorrow's match
with ticket sales for their "derby" slow on the uptake.
From the Smogs official website:
Fans aiming to buy tickets for Boro's opening Premiership fixture
against Newcastle at the Riverside on Saturday had better hurry because
there are only a *small number left.
*Last I heard there was 3,000 plus waiting to be snapped up. Another
full house for them tomorrow then...
Woody To Seek Specialist Help
Today's Chronicle has revealed that Jonathan Woodgate is to visit
a specialist in an attempt to finally get to the root of his thigh
problem that has kept him out of action for nearly 4 months.
Sir Bobby had this to say:
"We are all very disappointed at not having Jonathan with us
when we go to Middlesbrough tomorrow. But that's nothing to what he
is feeling. He is a Middlesbrough lad and he is absolutely devastated
that he won't be there.
"We have found the best specialist we can find and that's where he
will be going next week. His injury is at a sticking point at the
moment. He needs help and that's what we are going to get him."
Next week? How about sending him now!
Happy Birthday Alan Shearer
King Al as a bairn sitting next to King Kev. Who would have thought
back then that the little kid on the right would have cost his man
to the left £15m a good few years down the line? That was 8
years ago. Since then Shearer has went on to play 321 times, scoring
173 goals for United - money well spent. Today he is 34 and time is
running out, 9 months to be precise for the Toon No.9. This is his
last Season and he's short of 28 goals to break Wor Jackie's record
and short of a Black & White winners medal thus far. Lets hope
he and Bobby can bow out together having accomplished both goals.
Happy Birthday Al.
Hugo Fails To Shine In Greece
Hugo Viana's Portugal team was thrashed 4-2 by unfancied Iraq in Greece
last night in their opening game of the Olympics. Viana started the
match in central midfield but failed to have any real impact and was
subbed early in the second half. Whether he gets selected for their
next match against Morocco on Sunday remains to be seen. |
