Result: Newcastle United 0-0 Crystal Palace

Newcastle recorded their first *back-to-back 0-0 result at St. James' Park in 14 years against Crystal Palace earlier this afternoon in another turgid, uninspiring performance from Graeme Souness' team who were once again booed off at the final whistle.

A few missed chances from Alan Shearer and ruled out goals from Steven Taylor and Patrick Kluivert aside, there wasn't much goal worthy action to report about despite United dominating possession.

Palace on the other hand packed their defence, defended deep and aimed to hit us on the break with alleged Toon target Andy Johnson showing why he may interest Souness with his hard running and never give up attitude.

Teams

United: Given, Carr, Taylor, Boumsong, Elliott (Ramage 45), Ambrose (Kluivert 69), Faye, N'Zogbia, Milner, Ameobi (Kluivert 69), Shearer. Subs: not used: O'Brien, Harper.

Booked: N'Zogbia (83).

Palace: Kiraly, Sorondo, Popovic, Hall, Granville, Routledge, Leigertwood, Hughes, Riihilahti, Soares, Johnson. Subs: Torghelle, Watson, Speroni, Ventola, Lakis.

Booked: Popovic (9), Leigertwood (90).

Attendance: 52,123.

Referee: Alan Wiley (Staffordshire).

P.S The highlight of the match was fans raining down paper airplanes from the stands onto the pitch and peoples' heads.

*Back-to-back 0-0 home draws:

1991 was the last time Newcastle recorded two successive 0-0 home draws. Wolves and Brighton were the visitors.
