Peter Ramage To Get A New Deal

21 year-old Toon defender Peter Ramage is to get a new deal to tie him to the club long-term with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.

Souness confirmed:

"As I understand it, everything is agreed on a new contract with Peter and all that is needed is his signature on it."

Meanwhile Ramage had this to say regarding his elevation to the first-team:

"Hopefully my performances have given the club something to think about, and maybe twisted their arm!

"It was a dream come true - what I've been waiting for all these years. It's what I've worked hard for and I finally got my chance.

"You cannot hide in these places. There are 52,000 people out there and if you make a mistake, they see it. You've just got to stick your chest out and get on with it.

"To be honest, I wasn't happy with my first-half performance. I know I'm a centre-half, but I wasn't happy with my deliveries into the box as a full-back.

"Playing full-back is a whole new ball game for me, but to be honest I love it, even though I got cramp at the end which didn't help!

"It's what you play football for, to play against all these top players.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my battle with Giggs and thought I did well against him. I thought again I did well against Zenden and Downing. They're top-class players.

"I'd like to keep playing there but I know I've got Stephen Carr ahead of me, a top international player.

"There are a lot of top players at this club and it'll be a battle to stay in the team. My target now is to stay in the team for as long as possible.

"I've broken in and I feel I've done myself justice, although I realise there is a battle for places when everyone is available."

Aye well done Ramage, it's good to see young local players come through the ranks. Lets hope more and more come through and they stay in the team because of their performances.

Dyer Out For The Season

Withdrawn with 10 minutes to go in the first-half of last night's 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough due to his hamstring playing up again, Toon midfielder Kieron Dyer has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Graeme Souness speaking after the match said:

"Dyer's hamstring has gone completely.

"He will have a scan on it, but I think he knows himself that it has gone from the way he pulled up.

"Injuries like this one usually take six weeks - so I think it's fair to say that at this stage of the season he won't figure again before the end of the season."

You have to question the decision to play him...

Match Report: NUFC 0-0 Middlesbrough

St. James’ Park witnessed yet another forgettable night as Newcastle and Middlesbrough played out a goalless draw. The match itself was a dull affair with relatively little chances for both teams although Newcastle missed a glorious opportunity to nick all three points at the death as Charles N’Zogbia blasted over from 6-yards out. But it was the Boro fans who go back to smogland with their heads held high as they earned a well deserved point against their North East rivals.
