Match Preview: NUFC Vs Middlesbrough
The inevitable defeat to Man Utd happened
on Sunday, but at least we lost with a fight and for the first time
in a few weeks some positives came out of the game. The performances
of Ambrose and N'Zogbia especially showed that it isn't all doom and
gloom and we've got some good youngsters in the squad. We're still
heavily depleted as we head into one of our games in hand against
the Boro.

Souness On His Summer Spending Plans
Graeme Souness quotes appearing in
today's Journal regarding his Summer plans to bring in new faces:
"I think the fans should be extremely optimistic because the type
of players we are talking about bringing here - along with the existing
good players - means that, with a fair wind, we can have a very exciting
season next year.
"If I as a season ticket holder - knowing the things I know and knowing
the kind of players we are targeting - I would do it (renew) sooner
rather than later.
"We have got more than one or two targets and we will just try to
bag them as we go along. I can't give any guarantees, but I know that
we're looking at players who will both excite and improve what we
have. I don't think it will be an issue. I think the passion involved
in supporting this football club will always ensure that the season
tickets are sold.
"It is not a case of leading people down the garden path - that's
the wrong term to use. My understanding of the situation is that Newcastle
had Rooney but the late intervention of Manchester United changed
everything.
"We have been given indications by agents or by people close to players
that there are people interested in coming here.
"If I was given the chance to join Newcastle as a player, there would
only be two or three clubs in this country that would be a match.
Attracting players has never been a problem in the past and I don't
think it will be in the future."

Toon = Media Whores (& Jokers)
Update: The official NUFC website
has just released the following statement: Following media reports
this morning, the Chairman wishes to make it clear that Alan Shearer
has never said to him that he would knock 7 bells out of anyone.
We wrote earlier...
United Chairman Freddy Shepherd has once again used the media to air
the club's dirty laundry in public. This time responding to Craig
Bellamy's alleged text messages supposedly sent to Alan Shearer and
Freddy's son Kenneth after the Toon's 4-1 defeat in Cardiff.
From the BBC:
Striker Craig Bellamy has been told he has no future at Newcastle
United. Bellamy, currently on loan at Celtic, allegedly sent insulting
text messages to Magpies captain Alan Shearer after the FA Cup defeat
by Manchester United.
Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd confirmed that messages were received
and told the Daily Express: "He got more than he bargained for from
Alan.
"He was so riled he reacted. He told Bellamy he would knock his block
off if he ever set foot back in Newcastle."
Shepherd also confirmed that Bellamy texted his son Kenneth as well
as his former Tyneside strike partner.
He added: "The text he sent to Kenneth was mildly upsetting but what
he said to Shearer was insulting.
"It was along the lines that he was past it and his legs had gone
- and that he was going to come back here from Celtic.
"I can tell you there is no chance of that. Bellamy has taken on a
hero in Alan and there is only one winner of that one. And it is not
Bellamy.
"He has since claimed that he lost his phone. I suppose it was found
by someone who knew Alan and Kenneth's numbers."
In February, Bellamy completed a loan move to Celtic until the end
of the season after a public fall-out with Magpies boss Graeme Souness.
The Welsh striker will miss the rest of Celtic's campaign because
of a hamstring injury and his long-term future has yet to be resolved.
