Nicky Butt Statement

A statement from Nicky Butt, published on the official NUFC website regarding the former Manchester United man's snub to Newcastle fans.

"There has been suggestion that I deliberately snubbed the fans after the Semi Final on Sunday. I wish to go on record and state that was not my intention, if anyone has been left with that impression I apologise.

"Immediately after the game I was distraught about the result and our performance I was also deep in thought about my own game, as I desperately wanted to make a big impression especially against Manchester United.

"We have a number of big games left and as a group of players we will be giving 100% to try and improve our current league position because that's what the fans deserve."

Meanwhile manager Graeme Souness had this to say:

"I can understand people picked up on it. But I have to say he was playing against Manchester United, his old team, and desperately wanted to do well.

"That did not happen on the day and I think his disappointment will have been greater than most and I have to defend him on that.

"I know Nicky Butt is a proper human being and right now his tail is firmly between his legs, he was a very sad man on Sunday and I have to defend him."

So, the usual hot air then...
